Theo didn't think he could blame it on spell damage any longer - as he meandered through Hogsmeade with Mali, the only thing messing with his brain at this point was how cute he thought she looked and how good of a time he was having. With Mali. He was having a good time with Mali, on purpose. She'd taken good care of him after his incident, but even before that - at some random point in time, it sometimes felt like - they'd stepped over a line somewhere, from annoyance to a kind of attraction. It was a strange, new feeling to be sure, but rather addicting. Theo didn't think he could even blame the spell damage for the whole 'asking out on a date' thing - that had been all him. If there was one thing Theo knew, it was how he felt. He also knew, already, Mali wasn't the type of woman you could just take out for coffee, either - thus, their current destination. The pair took a long walk through Hogsmeade, with the Shrieking Shack as their destination; an adventure suited them both just fine, he thought. And even before they left the cobblestones for the short walk down the wooded slope that led to the old house, Theo was having a hard time keeping his eyes off his fellow adventurer. Oh, how she messed with his head. She was adorable and funny and a good time, and he really didn't know how he'd missed all of that before. Maybe because it was hidden beneath a mountain of height jokes and snide comments about trolls. Things they had thus far generally avoided today, much to Theo's pleasure. When they reached the front of the Shack, Theo stopped at the door, pushing it open easily with a loud creak. He turned on his companion and held the door for her, grinning down at her. "Sure you're not too scared?" Mali Johar (OOC: Lemme know if this is okay ^^)

Mali must have suffered blood loss related brain damage in that back alley. Had to of. That was the only explanation as to why Mali was walking through Hogsmeade along side Theo Ashland, Troll and Arrogant Egotistical Medi-Wizard. Brain damage was the only way to rationalize why she found him cute and sort of goofy. Not a bad goofy, but in such a way that he was adorably charming and made her feel light inside, floaty like she could drift up off the sidewalk and away from the little wizarding village. Luckily her desire to stick close to him, soak up his warmth and admire his smile kept her anchored down to the ground. This wasn't Mali's first date by a long shot, but the first one that made her palms sweaty and unusually warm. Was she nervous?
Maybe it wasn't just the company that had her nervous, but their destination. Mali was brave in some ways and a coward in others. While the idea of The Shrieking Shack excited her, it also played with her numerous fears. Darkness, ghosts (even though the ones she met at Hogwarts were lovely dead people.) and whatever could be crawling in the shadows of the dilapidated shack. Even as Theo eased the door open a shiver of anxiety cut through the warm, bubbly feeling and ran right up her spine. Mali murmured a noncommittal "Mm." and bit her lip, leaning forward to peek inside the ramshackle building. It looked like a dust allergy's worst nightmare, a thick layer of the stuff covering every surface, accented with cobwebs and spots of rotting wood. It wasn't too dark, it didn't look particularly safe but she could spirit growing bolder by the second, next to Theo. He felt secure, like he could chase away the shadows if she asked him too.
Mali looked back up at her date (and this was a much better date than coffee or dinner ever would be.), a grin settling on to her face. "I don't think so, but maybe you should hold my hand just in case?" Awarding herself ten points for originality and another five for smoothness (negative 2 for cheesiness) Mali took his hand before he could protest, lacing their fingers together as she marched through the door, tugging him along with her.
(Nope, it's perfect. I love it!)

For a moment Theo's grin faltered, because Mali actually did look a bit hesitant to go inside. Not exactly the kind of date he had in mind if she spent the whole time terrified for her life (that sort of thing looked bad on a man, his dates being terrified for their lives). He waited patiently as she leaned in to check out place, alternating his own gaze between the interior of the Shack - ew, cobwebs - and Mali's face (much more pleasant to look at, the way she bit her lip driving him just a little bit wild). Eventually, she grinned back up at him, and Theo's own relieved grin returned. She didn't seem so scared that she wouldn't go inside, but a little remaining fear was good in that it was a hell of an excuse to get closer to her.
Or hold her hand. Mali wasted absolutely no time, hitting him with a line that made him pause with an impressed little chuckle (he lived for the cheesiness, truly, it was the way straight to his heart), and then just taking his hand for herself. Theo took a moment to appreciate the way her smaller fingers fit smugly against his before being tugged aside - which he also took time to appreciate with a wide grin. That wasn't something a frightened little witch would do, and Theo loved the boldness.
Once they were far enough inside, Theo tugged back a bit, to stop Mali and turn her toward him, keeping their hands together because he was really enjoying that. He eyed her with a playful little grin, sweeping his free hand toward the stairs next to them - one set going to the second floor, the other probably to a cellar of some sort. "Okay, you pick first - up or down?"

While the interior of the shack was very important to investigate Mali couldn't help the way her eyes seemed to drift back to Theo as they stood there, peering in. She caught him looking at her and not the shack. A light pink flooded her cheeks and Mali pressed her lips together to conceal her own smile. "What're you looking at?" It was her. She knew that and she absolutely loved it. They were mad for each other. It wasn't just some young naïve crush, Mali knew Theo liked her just as much as she liked him. It left her with a feeling that could only be described as giddiness, that left one bubbly and light inside. That lightness only intensified when they stood, grinning at each other. Mali could stand there all day, committing every line of his face to her memory, staring into beautiful brown eyes.
Eventually they had to leave that spot, though. Mali found a good reason to take Theo's hand and he didn't seem to mind the corniness of her hand holding line. Their hands fit together nicely, even if her own palm was a little warm due to nerves. The school girl first date kind and the dark and dangerous kind. Stepping over the threshold and into the shack was hard but deciding where to go next was harder. Mali stood a little closer to Theo than necessary as she considered her options, drawing courage from their proximity. Down looked awful dark, cellars often didn't have windows. Mali tilted her head back to look up at the ceiling. It looked rickety at best. Maaaybe not the safest thing to be go stomping around on and trolls stomped, whether they meant too or not. Long legs had heavy footsteps. "Hmm.." Tapping her chin thoughtfully her attention returned the dual set of stairs. "Let's go down." Grip tightening on Theo's hand slightly, Mali reached into her pocket with her free hand to pull out her wand, muttering a command of "Lumos!"
A light flickered on at the tip of her wand, chasing the shadows away from the stairs. With the dark a little less darker she tugged Theo off towards the stairs. The minute her shoe hit the first step the stair creaked under her foot and Mali squeaked out her surprise, backing off the stair and into Theo with a start. A few seconds passed before she could process what happened and Mali laughed, turning back to her date, asking "Are you alright? I didn't step on your foot, did I?"

Even the doorstep of the Shack was dimmer than the rest of the world, the shadow of the house falling over the both of them as they stood there not-quite-looking at each other, but even in the weak light Theo caught the color filling Mali's cheeks. It was all he had eyes for, really; it made his grin wider and his own little hot flush creep up his neck. The anticipation, the teasing, were quite possibly his favorite part of this little game they played. "You." And Theo would've liked to stand there and look at her all day, really - but they had a Shack to explore, and hands to hold, and reasons to get a little closer to one another.
Considering their options - possibly dangerous upper floor or certainly creepy basement - was just one of these great reasons. Mali stood nearly against him as she made her choice; Theo held tight to her hand to keep his own from wandering, perhaps through her long, dark hair...Down. She wanted to go down. Theo grinned at her and nodded, giving her hand a squeeze at the reflexive tightening of her grip. He watched with curiosity as she pulled out her wand - ah. Lumos. "Ohh, good plan. I knew I brought you along for a reason." He winked down at her before being tugged away to the stairs.
Disaster awaited them on the first step. The first half-step, really; Mali only had one foot down before she came tumbling and squeaking backward, right into Theo, the man with the world's most unfortunate affliction - a bad reputation with door frames. It only took that half-step back for him to unwillingly knock his head against the frame around the stairs, eliciting an, "Ow, fuck," from him and a hand to rub at the sore spot...and a laugh from Mali. He didn't think it was that funny, but maybe that was just the pain in his head talking.
"Oh, my foot's fine," he said, rubbing at the back of his head. With her looking at him though, Theo couldn't fight off for long the grin that so desperately wanted to be on his face. Darn her. He'd have to relieve his irritation another way - a little sass would do nicely. Just a little; they were on a date, after all. "You sure you can do this? If you're that afraid of stairs I'd hate to see what those ghosts down there do to you." He raised an eyebrow, grin taking on a hint of challenge. He'd always heard the Shack was haunted.

Theo squeezed her hand, heart tingling pleasantly in response. She was so preoccupied with the fact that she and Theo were really holding hands that she nearly stuttered over the incantation but thankfully, the wand lit all the same. With the tip ignited she gave the wand a little flourish. "Of course, wand lighting and good plans. You couldn't have possibly brought me along for anything else." Mali was chock-full of good plans for the day, smooth hand holding, Lumos spells, and a few tricks up her sleeve for later that might revolve around things like first kisses. She wasn't going to brave the intimidating dark and creepy ghosts just for cute grins, hand holding and too close standing.
Her flirty plans were foiled by a creaky step. Gryffindor she was not, recoiling back faster than she could blink. Theo paid for her jumpiness with a knock to the head. "Language!" she scolded, tapping him on the nose to emphasize his point. Fuck was such a strong word, one Mali didn't care for. She frowned in sympathy when he rubbed the back of his cranium. His foot was fine. His poor skull was not. He earned himself the Mali treatment, she reached up to run her fingers through his short hair once, trailing them down and across his cheek before she delivered her assessment. "Poor Theo. Luckily, I think you'll pull through and make a full recovery." Healer Mali knew best after all. She could do it there, steal that first kiss and count the night as a success but the sass was a little bit of a mood killer. It shouldn't be, that was what their fledgling friendship and.. dateship? Was built on. Sass and banter. She rose to the challenge in her own way, retaking his hand after having let go somewhere during the step and the thunk of his head against the door frame. "You'll keep me safe." Nothing bad could happen as long as she was with Theo. Ever since he found her bleeding to death in the alley, being around Theo made he feel like everything would be okay.
They couldn't stand on the landing forever. Or they could, but then she could never prove how unafraid she was of whatever lurked down in the cellar. Braced for the creaky stair, Mali hopped down onto it with both feet, conquering it in one move. Take that! Triumphant and proud, she glanced back at Theo with her own wink before she proceeded the rest of the stairs, a little more quickly than she would normally walk down stairs. Her heart seized in her chest, holding her breath all the way down 'til her feet hit the cement floor. It wasn't any less scary off the stairs and in the actual cellar. It was dark and the light of her wand helped cast creepy shadows. A mouse rustled and scurried across the floor and Mali yelped, dropping her wand and losing their source of light.

"Not a thing," Theo teased, voice full of the things he did actually hope to accomplish on this little date of theirs. If he spent too much more time looking down at her, drinking up their intoxicating closeness, he'd be very tempted to get started too early on those things, so he was lucky she pulled him toward the stairs. He kind of liked this habit they were getting into, her taking charge and pulling him along. "Maybe someone to guide me along, too." Adventure first, definitely. They couldn't do much adventuring at all if they stopped just barely inside the house to act like hormonal teenagers - as tempting as it was. Theo couldn't be sure, of course, but he had a good feeling the same kinds of thoughts were running through Mali's head.
Even if they were, though, that didn't stop the same old Mali - that, up until very recently, irritated the hell out of him - from popping up and scolding him. For saying 'fuck'. Theo would have rolled his eyes at this, had she not also bopped him on the nose in a very cute manner and sent his head swirling again into a more pleasant territory of thoughts. He thought he might actually be willing to watch his mouth just to keep her around - and that was really saying a lot for Theo. He didn't have very much of a filter at all.
One thing the filter would never be able to catch was the cheesiness. He had lines of his own and nothing would ever convince him that they weren't actually all that funny. He was near overwhelmed with Mali's hand in his hair, touching his face - he leaned into that touch unconsciously, warm and smitten. "Mm, thank you Healer Johar. I think I'll come to you for all my examinations." She certainly had a power over him, a bit unlike anything he'd experienced with anyone else. The only thing that stopped him from going completely gaga on these stairs was the reminding throb in his head. The other thing his filter struggled with was the sass. The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them - he found himself not really wanting to irritate Mali at all right now, what with the way she was touching him - but she, of course, took them in stride. Their hands were back together, no harm done. "'Course I will." In a moment of boldness before she hopped away, Theo kissed the back of her hand. They were at least inside the house now, had made it all the way to the stairs, it was okay.
Mali hopping down said stairs made Theo laugh. "Show 'em who's boss," he encouraged, wrinkling his nose at her, when she winked back at him. Then they were off, Mali tugging him down the stairs at a rapid rate and Theo being thankful for his long legs the whole way down. He got one quick look around the dim cellar before Mali was squeaking again - this time even dropping her wand. The two of them were encased in near total darkness. Theo's grip on Mali's hand tightened; he pulled her toward him, not just to feel their hands together but her actually up against him. He would hate to lose her in the dark. "Just a sec; don't run off, now," he announced to the darkness, rummaging in his pocket for his own wand.
When he found it, he cast Lumos and held it above his head, searching the ground for where Mali's wand got off to. There wasn't really much down here, and he fairly quickly saw it had rolled toward a corner of the floor. A very, very cobwebby corner. Hmm. Theo took an involuntary half-step back, pointing at the corner with his hand that was in Mali's so she would be moved a bit in front of him. "Um, there it is." He chewed at his lip. It was still too dark down here to see properly; to see if there was anything crawling around in that web.

Mali tilted her head, grinning up at Theo. "I'll never guide you astray." It would be terribly easy to lean up onto the tip of her toes and steal a kiss from those lips, her own tingled in anticipation for it. If she did, Mali knew they would never leave that spot. It was very tempting, who needed to know what over explored 'secrets' the rickety old shack held? She would rather know the secrets that hid behind those soulful brown eyes, what made Theo Ashland tick. They couldn't discover those secrets with their lips otherwise occupied so wait she would. Exploring the shack would be fun and she had Theo by her side to chase away whatever hid in the shadows.
The chemistry and repressed tension was certainly there. He enjoyed her touch and the word 'examinations' made her blush something fierce, mind wandering. Mali's hands tangled up briefly in the hem of Theo's shirt as she bit down on her lower lip, tugging him closer. "Maybe later we'll do a more thorough exam. But first, the basement." Their hands ended up together, thanks to Mali but the kiss against her hand sent butterflies fluttering. "Such a gentleman."
One minute they were down in a foreboding basement, Theo being the typical Gryffindor and pulling her closer up against him which she could get very used to, the next he was backing up, angling her in front of him. "Theo Ashland." she said, grinning and propping her free hand on her hip, eyeing the cobweb before turning around. "You're not afraid of spiders are you?" She was one to talk, afraid of the dark and all but Mali never claimed to be brave. Quite the contrary, she was the first one to tell you she was easily frightened. "That's sort've funny. And kind've cute." Mali reached up to ruffle his hair a little before untangling her hand from his and trotting off and crouching down to pick up her wand.
While low, she examined the cobweb with a wrinkled nose and a finger tapping against her chin. "Don't worry." Mali said, glancing back at Theo "You're safe, there's no spider in this one.." Her face fell suddenly, eyes narrowing. "Theo.." her voice was suddenly very serious and grave, dropping a few decibels. "Theo... Don't panic, alright? Don't move.." With wand in hand she slowly rose, walking carefully over to Theo, her voice barely above a whisper as she said "There's a spider on your shoulder" and spider crawled her fingers along his shoulder and neck. Very amused with her own joke she broke into a fit of giggles.

"Mhm, not astray - just into dark, creepy basements. I know your game plan, little one." He winked at her and tapped her nose just like she did him. Because man, was it his game plan, too. He was almost positive they were on the same page - he was certainly getting that vibe, at any rate, why else were they having such a difficult time looking away from one another, unable to move even another inch apart - so there was no shame in that. There was attraction there, a lot of it, and it only made sense that a teasing little romp through the Shack be a part of it. That was the foundation of Theo and Mali's time together, back when it was irritating and now when it was exciting. Teasing, pulling back only to pull right back up to try and get the upper hand. This time, the chase was just a little more wanton.
And just like in all those other times, though she be but little, Mali was getting the upper hand early. She was bolder than he would have ever expected - even though he shouldn't have been surprised, Mali could both dish it out and take it like a champ and he knew this - but either way it was sending his mind into a whirlwind. She barely had to do anything at all to plant all sorts of ideas in his head - a little tug on his shirt, her biting down on her lip. "Well, if it's for my health..." It drove him crazy - but he couldn't let her win. Oh, no. Not yet. Maybe he would a little later (the bottom of the stairs they stood at the top of was an attractive option), but the more they dragged it out, the sweeter it would be when they finally succumbed. In the meantime, they could both occupy themselves with thoughts of examinations, and Theo could put a little more force behind his kiss on her hand. "Always."
And as they always did whenever they were around, spiders ended up being the (also inevitable) kink in Theo's plan. Spiders. Why did it have to be spiders? What else could one really expect from a dank and dark basement...but still. Why spiders? Theo hated the bloody things. They were creepy, and crawly, and just ugh. Mali, of course, caught onto this rather quickly - and Mali, of course, apparently was not nearly as afraid as him. Theo drew himself up at her grinning accusation. "Nobody likes spiders, Mali. Not anyone sane, anyway. They're disgusting." He almost would have been annoyed, having to take this hit to his ego in front of a cute girl all because of some eight-legged freak, but there was the return of Mali's fingers through his hair and his reset button hit, filling him again with warmth in the slight chill of the basement. He was funny, and cute, she said - who cared at all about spiders?
Theo. Theo cared about spiders. He watched Mali examine the cobweb with a mixture of amusement and abject horror, just waiting for her to get bitten, when she looked back at him and her face fell. Theo went instantly white as a ghost. There was only one thing that look meant - he was being attacked! He stiffened up, ready to swing about wildly and karate chop everything in reach because it was the only proper way to get rid of spiders, but Mali told him not to move. Oh gods, it was worse than he thought. The spider must be huge. Theo bit down on his lip to keep himself from whining as she approached him. And then...
And then there were her fingers. Five little legs crawling across his shoulder, not eight. Theo blinked away several moments before he realized what was happening - by that time, Mali was in the midst of a giggle fit. Oh, bloody hell. All the tension drained so suddenly out of Theo's body it inadvertently brought him half a step closer to Mali - well, maybe not entirely inadvertently. That was pretty good; but now he had to step their game up, if he was going to let her get him that good. And there was the little matter of how adorable she looked, losing face in the wandlight, and how much her light touch against his neck made him shiver. A grin returned to Theo's face as he scooped his free hand under Mali's chin. "Quiet, you." And he leaned down to press his mouth to hers, because who didn't want their first kiss in a dark basement; but Theo didn't think it really mattered, thoughts of darkness and spiders (still yuck) and little games melting away into warmth as he truly realized how long he'd been wanting this.

Theo bopped her on the nose and Mali blinked in surprise before smiling broadly and laughing. That was her little mannerism but it was equally as adorable on her big mountain troll of a date. Things were going well for them and as much as Mali enjoyed their sass duels, the chemistry they had going for them made the butterflies in her stomach flitter and dance, enjoying the warmth that radiated from her chest all the way down to the tips of her toes. He made it very hard to leave the pleasantness for the creepy darkness lurking just below them.
For his health, that made Mali laugh again before pulling him closer. Their lips mere inches away, her hands untangling from his shirt for her fingers to wander, slipping underneath and grazing over his bare skin, drawing a little circle. "For your health. Let's go with that." and not because he was attractive and driving her absolutely crazy with that handsome smile and pretty eyes. His lips against the back of her hand was a nice touch and only solidified the fact that Theo was really sweet and charming beneath all his snark.
"Some people like spiders." she remarked as she pursued the dropped wand. "Not me, I agree they're disgusting but they're mostly harmless. Except the giant ones in the forbidden forest." she teased, glancing back over her shoulder at him. "Say, the forest really isn't that far from here, is it? They could always wander over." Really, she didn't have any room to tease anyone. At least spiders were venomous and some of them got rather large and bitey. The dark was literally harmless and she supposed it wasn't really the dark she was afraid of but the things that hid in it. "Maybe this is their vacation home." gaze drifting up as she mused over the idea. "Where they come to get away from the centaurs. I hear they're boring and stiff."
He moved closer in his fear and Mali nearly lost it right there, broke her joke to pull him closer and take her prize. There was something endearing in seeing such a large man act so human, to fear something so small and normally insignificant. Her fingers walked along his neck and even as she laughed at him, spoiling her joke, the tips of her fingers toyed with the hair at the base of his skull. Somewhere, Mali sent Theo over the edge and he decided to shush her up with his mouth. His grip on her chin sent those pesky little butterflies into overdrive, head tilting up as their lips met for the first time. There weren't fireworks exactly but tingles and warmth and all pleasant feelings. Mali wanted more, arms encircling his neck to pull him closer still and deepening their kiss. Eventually the kiss had to break but she wasn't letting him go anywhere, keeping him captive with her arms around his neck and planting a bonus kiss on the tip of his nose in place of bopping it.
Mali was all grins and smiles and awkwardness. What did one say after a kiss like that? He threw her off of her game in the most wonderful way, flustering her with feelings of romance and affection. "Hi." because that was smooth and not painfully awkward at all, blushing at how painfully verbally clumsy that was. She felt like she was meeting him over again, seeing him differently for the first time. "That was nice." And her smoothness didn't improve in the least. "You're nice. Your lips are nice. Aaand I'm going to stop talking now." It was like the more awkward she got the more she was compelled to say strange and painful things so it was best to not say anything else at all.

All this talk of spiders and their vacation homes was a good dousing of cold water over Theo, and the bloke needed it; what with Mali doing things like sneaking her hands under his shirt, he was all kinds of hot and bothered, skin on fire beneath her fingers. And while Theo was definitely never shy about such a thing, he hadn't come all the way out here to push her up against the very first wall he could find. He felt some kind of way about Mali; it was different. Still incredibly pleasant, but definitely different. He couldn't quite put a finger on it, but it was the kind of feeling you wanted to draw out into time, instead of rushing to gather it all up at once. Still-- Theo wasn't great with feelings. He was a man driven by wants. A little fear for his life over the prospect of giant spiders helped with the near uncontrollable heat in his core, at least temporarily. "Not funny," he shivered, glancing up the stairs as if expecting one of the big bastards to come marching right on down. "If they're so harmless, I fully expect you to jump in between me and those giant fangs, deal?"
As previously mentioned, the cooling distraction was very temporary. Very, very temporary. Spiders turned into Mali's fingers turned into her lips against his, and Theo heated right back up. She responded with just as much enthusiasm as he had, and where her arms went around his neck, Theo's arms dropped down around Mali's waist. With his wand lost behind her back, the two of them were again in near darkness - not that it mattered. They were lost in one another completely. When they broke for air - with a sweet little bonus kiss on the tip of his nose - for a few seconds Theo could only stare down into the gorgeous face he'd just kissed (high five for Theo!), and when Mali spoke, he grinned, too. Like an idiot - or rather, a fool, because that was a nicer way of describing someone in his situation. Absolutely punch drunk. "Hi." He laughed quietly; that was pretty darn nice, true. "You're so cute." Theo landed another quick kiss - to save Mali from having to talk, of course - not moving another muscle because he was a big fan of this closeness. "Think any of the rest of the house could beat this?" Theo didn't want to move an inch, all the spiders in the world be damned.
