Minerva surveyed the streamer-bedecked Diagon Alley with satisfaction. The street was bright and cheerful, covered in the colours of Hogwarts and filled with excited students and shopkeepers alike. She spotted first-years dashing around with wide eyes, parents with large grins on their faces, and older students running around and hugging, excited to be seeing each other again. A small sense of school pride lit in Minerva's chest at the sight, and she smiled fondly, glad that everyone was looking forward to going back to school. She and her staff (including the newly appointed Ryuu Tsukuda, who she'd roped into assisting to test his mettle) had proposed an joint event to the shopkeepers, to encourage early school spirit and also promote business. As such, there were sales in every shop and also some open-air stalls had been set up, selling magical jewelry, candy and food, and more. In addition, Minerva had announced earlier to the crowds that there was a special school event on where students could earn their Houses points prior to term's beginning: All in all, it was going to be a good day, Minerva decided, swishing her long purple robes around her feet with a purpose. Hopefully the goers of Diagon Alley today would agree with her!!! _________
WELCOME TO THE BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT! We strongly advise that you participate! It's an excellent time to post with school friends or to have your characters interact. This event is open to all, not just students!
If you are a student and you wish to participate in the hunt for the golden snitches, please PM Minerva McGonagall. She will then give you a riddle (just for you personally) or a puzzle that will indicate the location of your Snitch. If you can solve it, you must post in this thread that your character has gone to find it at the location and tag Minerva in it. If you're correct, your House will earn points! It's that simple.
Happy posting!

Somehow Theo and Mali were apart. It was quite unusual to find one without the other lately as they had practically glued themselves together at the hip as they learned to cope with what happened back at the hospital. It was getting easier, now that they were easing back into their little jokes and Theo was back at work. It almost felt normal, save for the whole 'couple' thing but that was something she could definitely get used too considering she was head over heels for the very tall Medi-Wizard. How did one spend the day free of their other half? Shopping in Diagon Alley, of course! She certainly picked the right day for it, too. The cobblestone streets were packed full of students young and old, running around babbling about snitches and showing off their new wands or latest set of gobstones. It was delightful and made Mali's heart feel so much lighter to see such unabashed joy in the aftermath of several very terrible events. Mali found herself smiling fondly as she weaved her way through the crowd, pausing to give Headmistress McGonagall a finger wiggling hello before continuing on to her destination. First up, book shop. She spent near an hour browsing through the shelves, pulling titles on various subjects like unforgivable curses (special section for that one) curse damage repair and general healing. She had quite a stack when she joined the queue of people waiting to pay for their purchases made longer by the students who'd come to buy their books during the back to school event. Mali swayed back and forth on her heels, humming under her breath as she waited 'til someone bumped into her behind. The witch stumbled a step forward before spinning around on her heel to see who'd bumped her while offering up her own apology "Sorry! Didn't see you there!" as was her MO, considering she was usually the one doing the bumping. "You alright? Oooh, you." Her face fell, jaw set with tension as a pang of guilt fluttered 'round in her stomach. Remus Lupin, the patient who lied about dark magic and she denied pain medication to had been the unfortunate soul to bump into her. " 'Ello." Mali said with a tilt of her head, voice lacking it's usual warmth. "Warm up anymore tea lately? You've still got your arm." Thanks to her. "That's a plus I s'pose."

Before term even began, you bet your Galleons Remus was going to throw himself into every school event imaginable. He was beyond eager and ready to get back into Hogwarts life - as he meandered through Diagon Alley's back-to-school bonanza (an excellent idea, he'd have to seek out Minerva in the crowd to tell her so) Remus fit right in, excited look on his face rivaling even that of the enthralled first years. After getting his fill of the pop-up carts (you couldn't really expect Remus to pass on homemade Chocolate Frogs, come on) as well as the regular shops (he splurged on a new robe...new beginnings and all that), Remus wondered down to his home away from home - the bookshop. Remus couldn't leave Diagon Alley without a new book, it was blasphemy to even suggest it. With his other purchases stashed over his arm, it took Remus a long time to find a title he didn't already own in the crowded old shop. Given several recent turns of events, his brain naturally led him toward the beast and beings section. Now, Remus could probably say - not so much with pride, but rather necessity - that he owned every book there was to own on werewolves. But lots of people had creatures on their brains these days, it seemed, and new editions and reprints were popping up all of the time. He selected the new eleventh edition of 'What to Expect When You're Expecting the Full Moon', thicker than its predecessor, and toted it toward the front. He came around the edge of a shelf and was met abruptly with the end of the long queue. Not expecting such a crowd, Remus stumbled into the last person in line. Remus mumbled an apology at the same time as the witch, leaning down to retrieve the bag he'd dropped. When he came back up, she was looking at him and not very happily. Oh, gods. It was that Healer from the hospital. The one who'd accused him of Dark magic just because he'd had a little run-in with some Fiendfyre. She seemed just as excited as he to have him of all people run into her. Remus thought about turning on his heel and walking away without saying anything at all, but people were already queuing behind him. Plus, book...he wanted that book. Remus sighed and tried his best to grace Mali Johar with a tired smile that came out a bit more as a grimace. "Sorry for running into you." And that was that...but no, she wasn't done. Of course not. "Yes...thank you," he said, looking down at the arm she had fixed so he didn't have to look at her. His gaze traveled to the stack of books in her arms. Well, would you look at that; seemed he wasn't the only one with a supposed interest in the Dark arts, that hypocrite. In his irritation at being sassed, it didn't really cross Remus' mind that Mali might be reading up on these subjects because of the people like him that she had to treat. "Interesting titles you've got there. Unforgivables, hmm? An interest of yours?"

August was his least favorite month. It was uncomfortably hot, a thin layer of sweat clinging to the back of his neck as he stalked through the cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley. On top of the unbearable heat there was the small matter of the influx of small children, excitedly buying their supplies for the next term. Eleven year old witches and wizards waving their brand new wands without care, occasionally cursing an ear off. Older children clogging up the street as they gathered with their old friends, catching up and gossiping about things to come. Tristan was a funny bird in the fact that he liked small children, just out of the toddler stage but before Hogwarts age. Babies intimidated him and he found children above the age of oh.. eight? to be tiresome. They weren't really that cute after that, just obnoxious.
He weaved through the crowd with ease, cutting a path through the thick of excited children. One would occasionally dart out in front of him or bounce off of his large form, earning themselves an irate sigh or annoyed grumble. He should abandon his errands in favor of returning on a day where the alley wasn't decked out in streamers and bubbly children but his potion cupboard at home was near barren. An annoying little scamp trampled across his path and across Tristan's foot as he turned to head towards the apothecary. The blonde haired blue eyed Medi-Wizard froze in place, hands clenched at his side and counted to ten. Tension eased, fingers uncurled and head turning as he heard what sounded like his name.

Nicole’s arm was draped lazily around @julia3 ’s shoulders as they wandered through the streets of Diagon. Most of the kids from the orphanage did their back to school shopping with workers from the place. But Nicole had convinced them to let her take Mikko off their hands (officially, for once). He’d only end up ditching his other chaperone anyway. Besides, back to school shopping was supposed to be a family thing, and Nicole was family in all the ways that mattered. And she had never actually been to one of these back to school things before, a fact that Mikko had acted greatly horrified about. Mostly because she hadn’t actually gone to school. But still. The place was ridiculously decked out for the occasion. Not bad for a school thing. She didn’t even mind all the kids running this way and that as they hunted for the snitches hidden around the street.
“So,” Nicole said, craning her neck to look at the list Mikko held. “Where to next?” The main requirement of this little trip was that they actually return with all the items on Mikko’s list. Hopefully they could get the boring stuff knocked out fast and have the rest of the day to enjoy themselves.
Just to throw this out there, @raven would never come to something like this of her own accord, but if one of the Hogwarts staff who knows her already wants to have talked her into coming along with them, I'd be down with that.

As much as Lavender hated to admit it, she liked the little snot nosed brats who filled the halls of Hogwarts during the school term. They made her days upon days upon days interesting, at least. Gave her someone to heckle, something to do that wasn't sobbing silvery ghost tears or fleeing from Peeves' taunting. If the staff was invited to this event then surely that included the resident ghosts as well? Even if she wasn't, Lavender Brown wrote her own rules. The former (or maybe perpetual, given the fact that she died in her school robes) Gryffindor glided down the cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley, unhappy with just much more transparent the sun seemed to make her as it shined through her Not Body. Students were running around excitedly and their happiness was infectious, boosting her normal sour mood considerably. That was until she set her former blue colored gaze on a group of giggly girls hugging out their greeting in a corner. Lavender watched them wistfully, the scene stirring up memories of Parvati and their school days. Her face took on a sour note and she glided onward to seek out someone familiar. Lavender found that someone familiar in the form of Minerva McGonagall, Hogwart's Headmistress, floating over and settling next to the woman as she swished her long purple robes. She gave the woman's attire a thoughtful look, tilting her head (at least that was still attached unlike the Gryffindor house ghost, although her neck was missing a fair bit of flesh, torn out by the teeth of Greyback) as she remarked "Purple's too warm of a color for such a hot day." At least she thought it was hot. It was difficult to gauge as Lavender no longer felt heat, just the chill of death. With her very lightly snarky fashion assessment doled out, her attention refocused on the students and their parents. "They do look like they're having fun, don't they?" There was a note of jealousy or sadness in her voice. Maybe both.

Parvati Patil was a lovely witch by all means, but she can be a tad bit sad at times. She has come to know that the her shift at Madam Malkin's has been changed so as to accommodate the new event. She did not know what it was and didn't even bother to know. She woke up on the wrong side of her bed and her predictions for today have not been that good. She found that a lost one would be meeting her. Parvati had to control herself after seeing it. The battle has been stressful for her as she lost her best friend in it. Every time she picks up a tea cup to find her prediction, every time she tries on a dress her heart aches. She misses her best friend Lavender. They have been together for seven years, through thick and thin. The only person Parvati trusted other than her sister was Lav. Upon seeing the prediction she has to brace herself for the on slaught of emotions she felt. She could still remember the lifeless body of her friend who was attacked by Greyback on whom Parvati holds an unconditional amount of hatred, enough to kill him. At the mere thought of meeting her best friend frightened her as she isn't sure of she can handle it. Parvati went to her work and that was when she understood the reason for her prediction. The whole of Diagon Alley has been arranged for the back to the school event conducted in the holidays. She saw little first years, run along with their parents and trying to take on every thing they are looking. Groups of giggling girls talking in hushed tones no doubt about boys or fashion. They painfully reminded her of the time spent with Lavender, she does meet the other one once a while, but the whole ghost thing is quite new to Parvati. She was waiting in the shop looking outside through the glass windows and she suddenly saw Lavender. Widening her eyes a little, and tried to see clearly by walking out of the shop. She saw that the pearl white ghost indeed looked like her friend and went towards her who was busy talking to the headmistress. She slowly reached the duo and spoke up "Lav, is that you?"Lavender Brown

"I am so glad we are here, just you and me. I never get to spend time with my little boy. Last I was reading this article about teenagers going against their parents and be beyond control. Cressida told me her daughter Amabel almost acts if her parents do not exist. Such ungratefulness to think we considered making her your wife. Do not tell your father I said that, we need to keep the Birling family a friend. I am just glad my children still care enough wanting to be seen with their silly mother in public." Lady Rutherford kept on chattering while Zachary sipped his tea and nodded once in awhile. His mother enjoyed talking about one and another things but he never managed to stay tuned. Today he happened to be a day off from his summer studies and his mother had insisted on going out and enjoy some culture. Both of them were dressed utterly proper yet fashionable, it was the perfect mixture between muggle and wizarding fashion. The streets of London were crowded being this close to the start of a new Hogwarts year. "Perhaps we should have asked Daphne to come. She is growing fast and is in need of some new school robes," he suggested, trying to start a two way conversation instead of having to listen to his mother's endless rambling. Lady Rutherford looked up and smiled. "But of course, I will write the fitter to come over. Having well fit clothes is important of a girl her age. I will also call a bra manufacturer I believe my little girl is slowly turning into a woman. Ah I still remember my first bra, I was so proud." She held her cheek and dreamily closed her eyes at the memories of her own puberty while Zachary gazed in shock at his mother, his mouth even hung a little open. He could not believe his own mother just said such things in public. He grew a little embarrassed and remembered why father never allowed her to go out on her own and why Zachary was rarely alone with his mother. Your mother is a dear, her bubbly personality helps me relaxing after a stressful day of work and always makes me smile. But she has no filter when there is nobody to watch her. - Or something like that father had said. At least he knew his parents were happily married but that still didn't make up for the fact that his mother was talking about his little sister's chest. Apparently his mother seemed to notice his face and held her hand in front of her mouth. "Aahh... I did it again, didn't I? I'm so sorry Zachary. I'll watch myself," she promised and checked her coffee for possible alcohol to see if she could blame it on anything. Zachary waved away the apology and cleared his throat. "Anyways I did not mean to have a fitter come over for Daphne. Wouldn't it be much more fun for her to come here and be with her classmates, her friends?" Zach often watched his sister at Hogwarts and saw how happy she was when she was among her friends. Daphne was so much more capable of being herself at Hogwarts that he felt a little sad. "How about you?" "Huh?" Zachary blinked up and saw his mother's red lips curved into a smile. "Wouldn't you want to go there and see your friends. I would love to meet them. You have never brought them over." The Slytherin gazed away and bit the inside of his cheek. He wasn't going to tell her that he didn't have that many friends. Actually he wondered if he even had friends. His mother saw the hesitation and pouted. "You aren't embarrassed of us right? I'm sure your friends will like me. Come, we're going. It's much more fun to shop ourselves rather than sent the servants." Lady Rutherford linked her arm with Zachary's paid and joined the crowd. Another man stood up from having coffee and reading a newspaper and nonchalantly followed them. Zachary rolled his eyes to himself. Of course there'd be a bodyguard. Well now father would know everything. The mother and son pair wandered through the streets, they really stuck out the crowd but didn't seem to mind. At least Devereux didn't mind, her smile was bright and she greeted about everyone she passed. Zachary was less comfortable in his position, he was avoiding eye contact until his mother noticed and nudged him. Now he was forced to smile and nod to every person he passed.
OOC: sorry for the long intro, I needed it to get a hang of Zach's mom. They're here . Students and teachers or just anyone who might know them. Feel free to approach

Normally Mali would be scrambling to help people retrieve what they dropped but something restrained her from helping Mister Lupin as she watched him scoop his bag back up. She was convinced that he wasn't to be trusted and given the past events that twisted Mali from her normal 'peace, love and no judgement' ideology to one of coolness. She wasn't truly cold, she was glad that his arm healed at least and he wasn't in pain, but it was hard to treat him with her normal warmth and friendliness. Her mind was desperately obsessed with the lady death eater who'd hurt Theo, she saw evidence of the woman everywhere. A flip of dark hair disappearing around the corner, the wicked little taunting laugh off in the distance, her purring, seductive voice that led Theo down the path to murder. All dark magic would eventually lead to her in Mali's irrational mind. His attempt at a smile was awkward and it only made Mali feel uneasy, the man was conflicting with her mental image of cold blooded Death Eater. It all felt very confusing, a feeling that Mali was starting to get used too with as often as it came up. She made a non committal sound in the back of her throat as he apologized for running into her before looking down at her stack of books and down the line in front of her thoughtfully. The person at the register was agonizingly slow but she really wanted these books, particularly the one on unforgivables if only so she could better understand the curse the witch put Theo under. The man was quick to jump on her choice of books and Mali looked back to him, Out of nowhere the guilt of denying the man pain medication hit her like a ton of bricks, giving her an awful sinking feeling in her stomach and her discomfort with the situation, including being called out was written clear across her face as her normal ghost of a smile fell completely. If she could take an interest in something without actually being a dark person, couldn't he? Her judgement was likely unwarranted but it was so easy, and she was only human. While not justified, it was understandable, wasn't it? If he'd been through what she had, he would make the same assumption. Right? Her grip on the volumes tightened and she turned slightly as if it could block him from seeing what he'd already saw. "Yes, actually." Mali's attempt at an even voice fell flat.. "You never know what someone could accidentally cast while warming their tea. I'd like to be prepared, considering I'm a spell damage specialist." Who denied her patients pain medication. The smug look that accompanied the sass was wiped right off her face, replaced with one that looked more regretful than anything. ________________ Remus Lupin

While Mikko was excited for the new school year he wasn’t very much into doing the school shopping. What was fun about watching students with parents buy all the stuff that he liked while he had to do with second handed items and shitty quality. Now he wasn’t all too jealous over the items. Tobias wasn’t a greedy person. What he didn’t like was watching happy families while his was gone. Luckily @nicole was very willing to accompany him that made his day a whole lot better. Although he much rather went to see her dragons instead of spending their time buy stuff. Mikko held the list in front of him when Nick asked him what their next destination would be. Then he shrugged and formed the letter to a ball. “Why don’t you treat me on a drink while I’m still allowed to?” The boy asked mischievously. Having an arm wrapped around him gave him the chance to strike. Mikko moved his arms to wrap them both around Nicole’s waist for a sideways hug. “Gotcha,” he beamed. His sharp eyes spotted a familiar face. “OOHH!! Look there is Professor Granny,” he said while pointing at his headmistress Minerva McGonagall. Good for him the place held too much noise for the lady to hear what he just called her. The dark haired boy did raise his hand and waved eagerly to the old woman. There were a lot of people, mostly students gathered around her. “Is this the snitch game? I ain’t much of a seeker, but shall we try?” Mikko turned his gaze back at Nicole.

Diagon Alley was full of happy children and their parents, chasing after prizes and fantastic deals. Pop up booths lined the already cramped cobblestone streets concentrating said happiness all in one place and perhaps drawing in a dark oppressive cloud of ragged robes and sucking mouths to smother all feelings of joy right out of the alley. Or maybe it wasn't a coincidence that the creatures swooped through the air while Diagon Alley was packed to capacity, many of the patrons underage wizards and witches with their parents, some of those parents were even muggles! Sitting ducks, a feast of light and happiness to be sucked dry, the dinner bell had been rung!
A lone dementor descended on the place first, gliding down out of the sky in a lazy spiral, carrying with it a deathly chill that felt horribly out of place on this hot summer day. Skeletal hands reached out and it's mouth stretched wide, sucking and searching. Wisps of joy and excitement radiated off of the crowd to be sucked down hungrily through it's gaping, scabbed mouth. People fled for their lives, for their souls, shrieking and sobbing as they were forced to remember their worst memories, as their light was devoured by the very embodiment of darkness.
The lone dementor was soon joined by scores of them, racing down from the sky like some sort of damned rain upon the little sliver of wizarding London. The air around the dementors turned thick, wizards began attempting patronuses, some even managed to conjure corporeal ones.. but what good were they against so many? __________________________________________________________
Flash site event!
You can NPC some dementors, the founders will be creating and controlling actual dementors as well to help the story move along. Remember, the patronus charm itself is VERY difficult, a corporeal patronus is even harder! We will NOT accept any students successfully casting the spell. We will not accept your average joe conjuring up a corporeal one, it has to make sense for your character.
No one will be Kissed without their permission. No one will be targeted without their permission. If you have a plot in mind, PM a founder and we'll work it out!

It would be a terrible torment for most, to be locked in deathly cold forever. There was no flesh to warm a Dementor's skeletal body, and the torn, filmy robes did not keep out the chill. But a Dementor was cold itself, absence of light and warmth, and so the chill did not seem to bother them in the least. Perhaps it did bother them - perhaps, they searched for the warmth of positive emotions such as happiness and excitement to briefly feel something other than numb. Or perhaps they merely subsisted off of these emotions, with no mind to anything but survival. Regardless of how the Dementors felt, it was clear that their human prey could feel the chill. As they descended, seeking emotion, seeking warmth, seeking the pure brightness of a soul - the humans started to shiver and sob, feeling a storm coming that they could only barely comprehend past the mind-numbing terror. This Dementor paid them no mind, instead strafing the ground in long, low swoops, its robes barely grazing the heads of the people below. If people crumbled - if people wept and wailed in despair - it paid them no mind, only intent on draining them of what they had to offer, and then moving on. __________________ Tag away! Incorporeal Patronuses slow them down, Corporeal Patronuses (Patroni?) will repel them. If you can think of creative attacks, go for it, though no guarantees they'll work...

While surveying the flock of students, parents and more who had shown up, Minerva spotted a pale form floating her way. Blinking once or twice to clear her eyes - she was seeing that correctly - Minerva tilted her head up at the ghostly form and nodded once in greeting. It was a terrible thing, that Lavender had stayed behind. Not just because the girl had a habit of criticizing Minerva's method of dress, but because she was desperately unhappy with her lot. Despite the acerbic comments on her clothes, Minerva felt great pity for the ghost. She pursed her lips in response, raising an eyebrow to complete the effect as she said to Lavender Brown, " I wasn't aware that colours acted as insulation, my dear Miss Brown." Both the tone and the words softened slightly at the eternal student's next words, and she continued in a calm tone, " I hope so. Far too many of them in the Weasleys' shop, I don't wonder!" hoping to head off a fit of sulking from the ghost. It appeared she wouldn't be successful in that regard, as Miss Patil - Lavender's former best friend - approached, eyes wide in her face. Minerva edged to the side, looking as though she had always intended on giving them space, and continued scanning the crowd, occasionally answering questions and greetings. She raised an elegant hand at @julia3, along with a raised eyebrow and a half smile (it was very good that she couldn't hear him) in amusement. It only took the span of a half-second for the amusement to fade into something akin to dread. As if in a time-lapse movie, the clouds rolled in - only they weren't clouds, but Dementors, pure despair and woe descending from the heavens. Minerva McGonagall was not one to blanch, but she did so now, her eyes widening the only indication that something was wrong as she started to herd students out of the way while fighting crushing fear. " Go, go, into the shops," she urged, grabbing the youngest students and shoving them at Flourish and Blotts. " Go, now. Stay together. It's going to be alright," she insisted, doing her utmost to keep her voice steady as she was deluged with dreadful memories. Her husband, dead, her family dying, Hogwarts crumbling. Minerva bit down on her lip, shook out her robes and snapped out her wand, crying hoarsely, " Expecto Patronum!!" and watching as a spectacled cat flickered into existence at the end of her wand, pouncing on a Dementor's robes with intent. Relief - a brief measure of it - poured into her, and Minerva took heart in it before turning to help more shivering students, knowing that the measure of relief would not last.

The Headmistress was a kind old broad, even if she chose to hide it behind her spectacles, severe bun and strictness. She humored Lavender, perhaps out of pity but the ghost of the former Gryffindor was not above accepting such a thing, though she would never admit it. Her lip curled up in a grimace as she eyed the woman's robes. "Well no, I didn't think you would be, given your fondness for tartan. " with that comment Lavender turned up her ghostly nose.
While she was never one for pranks she could appreciate the Weasley twins ingenuity. She watched a small third year bounce happily into the store. "You put on a good show, but I think you like the jokes. I think you miss having the Weasleys around. In fact, I'd bet a galleon on it." If she had galleons, that was. Ghosts weren't allowed vaults in Gringotts. "They certainly did liven things up, didn't they?" Their chat was nice and Lavender was enjoying it. She spent a good deal of her time hovering around Headmistress McGonagall given her chosen haunt, she might've even grown a soft spot from here somewhere around her dead heart. Lavender opened her mouth to comment further when she heard her name.
@patilp picked her way through the crowd to join them. A pang of jealousy overtook her briefly and her face fell. Parvati looked older while Lavender looked exactly the same as she did five years ago. Blonde curly hair, headband, drab Gryffindor robes and a bit of flesh missing from her neck where Greyback bit her. She recovered from it quickly enough, brightening and waving. "Yes, of course it's me. Who else would it be?" She was used to that look though, one of disbelief. It didn't matter how many times someone saw her, there was always the 'oh right, you're dead' look of recollection across their faces. "Fashionable as ever, I see."
The alley broke into a panic as dementors swooped through the sky like scavengers. The former Gryffindor reached instinctually for her wand, she had managed a patronus under Harry's tutelage but she found nothing in the pockets of her silvery robe. No wand, no spare knuts, no rolled up witch weekly or tube of Wonder Witch lipstick. Nothing. She owned nothing, she could carry nothing. Lavender no longer had earthly possession, she gave them up right along with her body. "I..." she trailed off, wide formerly blue eyes searching Parvati's face for guidance on what to do. She was impotent in this world.

Remus, too, felt guilt settle into the pit of his stomach at the look his words brought to Mali Johar's face. She'd offended him with her accusations and insinuations, sure, but he had to admit he was letting it get the better of him. They were just words - ill words had been spoken to and about Remus his whole life, really, the man should be used to it by now. It wasn't often that he was accused of practicing Dark magic, though. A lot of other nasty things, but not that. He'd spent nearly his whole life dedicated to eradicating the world of such Dark practices, and it just irked him something terrible that someone out there just thought he was indulging himself - but still, that was no reason to make young girls frown. Mali made it a little easier instead of Remus having to work out an awkward apology. She responded to his words in time, and Remus forgot all about that leaden guilt as it melted away with the heat of returning irritation. "Absolutely right; you should always be prepared for such accidents," he spoke tersely, emphasizing that their own initial run-in had been because of an accidental injury and not any conscious malice like she so seemed to think. "Hopefully there's a chapter in one of those on the consequences of falsely accusing people." Remus raised an eyebrow at Mali, and then turned slightly to block himself off from her and stare straight ahead, up at the register. He was just being nasty now, and could feel anger bubbling in his chest that he needed to tamp down. As offensive as he found her, Mali had healed him. She deserved at least a sliver of his respect, and the only way he could give it to her was by ignoring her and not trying to hurt her feelings. The line began to move a little faster, and eventually, Remus was at the front and making his purchase. He stuffed all his bags together and by the time he turned around, screams could be heard coming from the street. Remus went into battle mode unconsciously, stashing his purchases behind a bookshelf and running to the door. He struggled through a herd of children as they were ushered into the store, and through the open door he felt a chill that went straight to his bones. Remus went pale and paused for a moment, still inside the store. He watched through the windows as a mass of black robes descended upon the street, running people down and sucking their life and happiness away. Dementors. Remus straightened himself up, steeling his mind against what was to come. He dashed out into the street, eyes everywhere. He considered for a moment drawing his wand, but actually found his Patronus to come a little easier directly from his hands. Speaking of Patronuses - Remus' saw silver beginning to fill in the black as people attempted to defend themselves. It was a difficult spell to be sure, one that many people never had any reason to learn anyway. Most of the silver took the form of brief wisps and clouds, but Remus did see at least one corporeal form among them - a cat. With a nod to no one in particular, Remus took off in the opposite direction of the feline to banish the darkness somewhere else. He put his hands together in front of him and as he ran, shouted the incantation that sprouted a large, silvery wolf from his palms. The animal ran beside him for a moment before Remus moved his hands again, stopping and directing the Patronus toward one dementor in particular, looming over a figure and nearly engulfing them in its floating robes. (OOC: Triiiish, I hope this is okay, I know you said wanted her to wander away from him for a moment so they could meet back up. Do with it what you will~)
