Dominic sat nervously waiting for the sorting ceremony to begin. He had heard stories about it from other students. That it would involve some kind of test or challenge or something. Although his cousins, Donald and Amy Westwood had assured him that it was just a simply task of plonking the hat on your head and it read your mind he still could not help but wonder if that was a lie that was told not to give students an unfair advantage of having to prepared. Well, whatever the challenge up ahead was Dom was prepared for it. He would take it on no worries. Be it wrestling a troll, fighting a dragon or having to do combat with super intelligence ninja mangos from the planet Juniper that can only say the word ’wibble’ he was ready for anything.
The unsorted 11 year old listened to the song of the sorting hat to see if that had any hidden clue or meaning. A wand a cup and a crown....hmmm maybe they would be fighting a royal cup, king of the saucers who was also magic? Reading up like books? AHA the weapon of combat would be books! Maybe that how the choose houses? The Gryffindors would charge the Cup king head on, the Slytherins would throw the book at it, the Ravenclaws would refuse to use a book and instead improvise another weapon and the Hufflepuffs would offer to read the saucer king a bedtime story. That must be it.
The next part of the song seemed to confirm his idea, Gryffindors bravely charging in, Slytherin using their sharp mind, Ravenclaws being insightful in finding another weapon and the Hufflepuffs being kind! Aha he knew it!
It was much to the Welsh boy’s disappointed them it was actually as simple as putting a hat on. He watched as a few students ahead of him got sorted into their new homes. He was rather looking forward to mortal combat with a regal cup by way of books. ”Awwww” he said to himself sounding deeply disappointed.
EVANS. DOMINIC....it was his time. He rushed towards the sorting hat in a sort of bouncy fashion and sat on the stool, almost toppling it over with the enthusiasm in which he sat. The hat read his mind, his inner being and soul. HUFFLEPUFF it finally announced. As the hat was lifted from his head Dommie got a vague feeling that it was glad to have that sorting over with. Oh well. It didn’t matter much to the boy right now.
He rushed over to his new home, skipping along the way , before plonking himself down next to someone. ”Hiya I am Dominic, Dominic Evans who are are are you? This place is so awesome it is is is so big and cool I have never been to a place like this before I I I wonder what it is like does it hold a a a a lot of secrets huh? Huh? Huh?” he started off breathless excitedly to his housemates talking to no-one in particular and everyone it seemed. He stuttered with his excited. He looked around his new found housemates with wild and eager looking eyes. Almost leaning totally out of his seat. ”OOOOOH Ooooh oooh oooh....is is is that a a a a ghost?” he said pointing towards a spirit and leaping in his chair in an over excited and hyperactive fashion. HOGWARTS WAS GOING TO BE SO COOL!!! He could just feel it.

That's one thing out of the way, Miyu thought as he watched Donald Westwood struggling to hold back his urge to burst out into another round of apologies. He only realized that his comment might be a tad rude to the older boy, but he shrugged, glad that his blunt honesty at least did some good to actually shut him up for a bit. He was quick to shift his attention from the third-year's sorry state to the discussion about his sister. "Oh, really," he drawled (by then he was through the main course, and had moved on to desserts). "So the Hat sorts us based on our personality?" He recalled the little speech the Hat told him in his head when he was getting Sorted. "I thought it's more like the qualities we possessed? Unless I've misunderstood something." Then he stopped talking, wolfing down a few chocolate eclairs. So good!On the topic about Inter-House rivalry, despite Donald's reassurance, Miyu still felt a little skeptical. The world could be a better place if everyone was able to coexist in harmony, but at the same time it was a cruel place, that only the survival of the strongest could live in. Friendly competition could help each other to become a better person than before; however, there would always be some who would take the fight too far in their greedy pursue of fame, to further inflate their own swollen ego. Well, conflicts could never be eradicated, so the best that people would be able to do was to meditate the fight, control or suppress it as much as possible, and resolve the differences in a peaceful manner without resulting into a bloodbath of sorts. He should at least applaud the Headmistress for coming up with such an idea to drill that piece of philosophy into their young, hot-headed minds. That aside... "Before houses, before gender... before our external appearances, aren't we all just homo sapiens at its core? Sometimes I don't understand how and why people get so worked up over trivial matters." He shrugged, now onto cream puffs and scones. Yum - ah, if this continues I'll sure get fat from all these great munchies!Alchemy had always been a fascinating subject for the young boy, though according to his parents, it was a restricted art in onmyodo. Well, it would be dangerous for a wizard or witch to be able to turn something into anything else they wished - not just metal, but even the very earth beneath his feet into gold and precious stones. Or even create something to make people immortal! Who wouldn't want such a power that could sway the sin of greed in a human's heart? He shuddered at the thought of people abusing such dangerous magic, which could easily throw the world into chaos. "...I don't think allowing people to perform alchemy carelessly is a good idea," he finally said. "The consequences would be too much for anyone to handle." Miyu looked up from his food to gaze at the Hogwarts ghosts once more (his stomach was feeling satisfied, and now he merely drank some pumpkin juice to complete the course!), watching them with a thoughtful expression. "I wonder why they're afraid to 'pass on'? Some shameful regret they couldn't get over?" he asked in an offhanded manner. OOC:No worries about the long post - quality over quantity. I can write a lot if I feel the need to be really descriptive, but I'd try not to go overboard and end up writing purple prose instead, haha.

Donald wasn’t really offended by the 1st years comments towards him. He knew he was a bit of a wreck when it came to apologising. He supposed it must be because of his sister’s unforgiving nature and tendency to dominate him a bit when they were younger. That as his total lack of self confidence and self-respect. He supposed that it was something that he should work on. He ate some sticky toffee pudding as the 11 year old responded to his comments about sorting on personality and said he thought it was more like the qualities that they possessed. ”Well....is that not personality anyway? I mean our personalities are the combination of our characteristics and qualities that make us who we are.” he said. Maybe the pair where talking to cross ends about what personality meant. He supposed it didn’t really happen. The Welsh wizard was scoffing down some jam Swiss roll now. It was so tasty. Miyu Kisaragi had made another good point with all of us being homo sapiens. ”You are right. I don’t understand all this need to go against each other based on race, or houses or even gender. My sister is awful for that sometimes...” he glanced at Amy rather nervously. Even if she was on a totally different table and probably could not hear him he still wouldn’t want her hearing what he was about to say. He leaned in to Miyu and @sophie2 ”...well don’t tell her I’m saying this so she will kill me. But she genuinely believes girls are superior to boys and that girls should have special treatment.” he shook his head slightly and let out a heavy sigh. ”I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my sister. It just can be very difficult to cope with sometimes. You know?” He sat back on his chair a bit. Sometimes it was good to vent. He just hoped that his two companions would not go and tell his sister that he felt that way. That would certainly not end well for him. ”Still, in general, it the kind of attitude that one type of person is superior to another type of person that leads to all kind of nasty things happening. So, I agree, we are all the same at the end of the day. We should all be able to get along.” although his voice lilted it was very serious. ”I think performing any magic carelessly is very dangerous...” the third year said reasonably. Sometimes he was surprised that not more wizards and witches where having accidents from badly performed spells. ”But I suppose some fields are far more dangerous than others.” he conceded on the alchemy point. That said his own lingering but growing fascination with the dark arts was something that occasionally troubled the 13 year old. He was nibbling on some Welsh cakes when his new friend mused on the ghosts not passing on. ”I’ve never really asked them that...” he conceded. ”I suppose that is a bit of a personal question for them.” he looked at the ghosts again. They were all so varied. Peeves obviously wanted to stay a ghost as he had way too much fun pulling pranks. But the others? As far as the third year could see there was no fixed pattern to determine why. ---- ((OOC: sorry for the very late reply ))

Miyu shrugged at Donald Westwood's response on personalities. "Well, I've always thought that a person's qualities only makes up one portion of their entire personality, and it doesn't equate to their whole personality. Other stuff like habits, beliefs, values, et certera, all make up the personality of an individual. At least that's what I know and understand about human personality." Then he stopped to pop more eclairs into his mouth. When the discussion shifted to Donald's sister, Miyu's face crinkled with contempt. "Your sister sounds kinda awful - a bit like those extreme feminists who only care about their own gender superiority and not actually striving for equality between sexes," he remarked in a dry tone. "Well, not like the rest of us never judged each other based on external appearances anyway. It's natural for everyone to form a first impression of sorts of someone else based on appearance." From the way the older Ravenclaw boy was telling them about his sister in a low voice, she must be quite a pain in the neck to deal with that the brother had to gossip behind her back like this. It only made him more grateful that he was the only child in his own family, no annoying siblings to give him hell 24/7. "Nothing wrong about having pride in things, but too much of it can sour the relationship with other people, yeah." He didn't want to admit that deep down he could be a nasty, egoistic know-it-all at times, but at least he was willing to keep an open mind. He was still young, still growing - and there were so much things he had yet to learn or discover. After all, the pursuit for knowledge is an endless journey....However, at the same time, there were some things that one shouldn't tread on carelessly without understand the full consequences of acquiring such dangerous knowledge. The power of knowledge could become lethal in the wrong hands. Alchemy was one of them; even the 'Dark Arts', some kind of black magic shenanigans he had heard from the students on the Hogwarts Express. At that thought, he nodded his head in agreement with what Donald said about the danger of performing any kind of magic without caution. Miyu arched an eyebrow at the older boy's response on the school ghosts. "What?" he couldn't help but exclaim (he was so close to spitting out some pumpkin juice, but thank goodness he didn't). "None of you are curious why most dead people would easily move on to their 'next life' or whatever, but these--" he jerked a finger at the translucent figures swooping around the Great Hall to entertain the students at the various house tables, "-- guys are still hanging around here?" He shook his head. "Maybe you're right - it might be some sort of personal secrets they aren't willing to share - but still... it's obviously not because they love Hogwarts so much that they can't bear to stick around, even after they've died for a long, long time." He didn't even bother to hide the sarcasm in his tone. OOC:Semi-back to RPing, yay!

Donald considered Miyu Kisaragi response on personalities for a moment. He was pretty sure that was the point he was making anyway. ”Well, yea....” he said to the younger lad ”but I was classing those in with qualities and characteristics” he wondered if they were talking to cross ends here. Perhaps he was not explaining himself well enough. It was something that Donald felt that perhaps he should work on in the long run. As he told his new butty about Amy he watched as his face crinkled with contempt. Don did flinch slightly when he said his sister was awful. Despite the fact that Donnie was bad mouthing her he still loved and care for her. A part of him didn’t really like to think of other people thinking she was ‘kinda awful’ even if it was true some of the time. Although he was totally on the nose about her being one of them extreme feminist types who believed they were superior. ”You are right about her politics. It is awful living with her sometimes when she is in one of her feminist moods. Don’t get me wrong. I support feminism.....just not her brand of it. I think she totally misses the point.” the Welsh boy again gave a nervous glance at where his sibling was sitting. He really hoped she didn’t find out he said this. ”But she is alright really.....just....a bit extreme at times....” he said in an attempt to defend his sibling with a small shrug. He felt slightly guilty now about slagging her off to someone he just met but it was a bit late now for him to take back what he said. He returned to eating some sticky toffee pudding. ”Well....I am curious but I really don’t want to pry. I mean. I am sure that some other people have asked the ghosts why they have not moved on. But from what I hear they usually do not like it if you ask them that.” he told the small lad. The 13 year old did rise an eyebrow at the sarcastic tone of the boy’s voice. He didn’t say they stayed because they loved Hogwarts. In fact the Ravenclaw third year loved the school. ”I imagine it would be pretty ghastly to spend eternity one place...” he conceded to the first year. ”But then...I imagine it be very scary to not know what will happen if you move on. Is there something beyond this? Or will we just pass away into nothingness? I imagine the fear of the unknown, the fear of there being nothing at all, or no longer existing, is what holds some of the ghosts back” the Welsh youngster added in a considered and thoughtful tone.
