Cassabelle had sincerely been looking forward to this day, and the broad smile on her face as she zipped through the air on her broom proved it. The world needed a little healing right now, and what better way to heal than a friendly game of Quidditch? She found it very symbolic, really; the professional players of all the teams in the league coming together as one and playing against the amateurs, the citizens. Seriously. If members of Puddlemere United and the Chudley Cannons could manage to play a couple of games on the same team, surely the world at large could remedy its own divisiveness... Not that Cass was thinking at all about politics right now. She was in the air and on her broom, which meant her brain was wholly focused on Quidditch. Even if it was just a friendly little scrimmage - and she was taking it easy on the citizens, don't worry - she couldn't shake the focus the game always brought her. She chanced one little look around as she zoomed down the pitch after the Quaffle, and her smile broadened. In addition to the people up in the air playing with them right now, others roamed the stadium - watching, mingling, and waiting for their chance to challenge the pros. A flash of crimson brought Cass' attention back like a whip. The Quaffle crossed in front of her and she lurched forward to intercept it, balancing on her broom and hugging it to her chest. She hovered, searching the air for someone to pass to as a duo of players from the amateur team came zooming toward her. She spotted a teammate and tossed overhand, calling out their name as she did so. Addy Stark. Alec Wayland, Ashley AveryAnd any adult characters you all wish to bring! They can watch, they can play, they can have fun~

A friendly game against professional quidditch players sounded delightful. Luna rather liked the game and while she would have rathered to announce the match she enjoyed playing nearly as much. While Luna didn't have her own broom she managed to borrow one from Ron (although she was mostly sure that it was one he pilfered from Ginny). She was playing the position of Chaser and as a willowy wisp of a woman she certainly had the more aerodynamic build for it. It was mostly pleasant up in the air. The wind whipped through tangled locks of pale blonde and although the chill made her nose red and her face feel numb, the sun's rays seemed to cut through the wind to warm her edges.
Luna flew in lazy circles all around the pitch, mostly independent of the game. Quaffles and bludgers flew around her, other players pulled off fantastic evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision with the oblivious woman. She was stopped completely, finger tapping thoughtfully against her chin as she observed a cloud shaped like a crumple horned snorkack when a splash of red zipped by her right. It was a quaffle, thrown by Cassabelle Blackburn. As Editor of The Quibbler, a largely underestimated news publication, Luna often felt kinship towards the underdog and favored the Chudley Cannons and admired their captain.
"Oh!" she remarked at the Quaffle, adjusting her grip on her broom and flying after it. A chaser from the Appleby Arrows had their hand outstretched, waiting for the ball to find it's mark but Luna was now unusually alert and managed to snatch it right out of the chaser's fingertips. Her serene face lit up with a proud smile. It quickly took on a mischievous note and Luna turned broom tail and sped off for the other end of the pitch, quaffle tucked under her arm.

Addy felt at home as she whipped through the air, surprisingly so despite the fact that they were currently teaming up with the Cannons- well, all for a good cause, Addy supposed. It was certainly lovely to be on her broom again, surrounded by friends and teammates, and her anger was being put on the back burner in favour of some good old-fashioned adrenaline and fun. Addy was close on Cass' flank, ready to intercept if need be, when a blonde wisp of a woman zoomed by, catching Cass' pass. Addy made an amused expression at the Cannons captain, intimating just what she thought of that, before whipping after the blonde woman, urging her broom to a fever pitch. One of Puddlemere's beaters, a tiny blonde woman with a stronger arm than anyone might reckon, swung Luna Lovegood 's way, sending a Bludger straight for her grip on the Quaffle. Addy, seeing this, kicked her broom into a dive underneath the blonde, intending to either catch a dropped quaffle or come up in front of her. Grinning widely, painted lips stretched in an expression of pure joy, Addy dipped and rose, reaching out to prepare for what might happen next. (I decided to NPC Meri? One day soooonnn....)

Tristan wasn't really a fan of Quidditch. He was never really that good at flying or much of a team player, to be honest. The position of beater was appealing, smacking objects at people without fear of repercussion seemed like an awfully good way to let off some steam and maybe pent up frustration but no one in their right mind would give the former Slytherin a bat and permission to hit things. He wasn't there as a player today but as an observer. A very close friend (practically the only family he had) was up in the air, playing that very same position.
Honestly the Medi-Wizard could think of better ways to waste an afternoon (like mulling around Eoin's place hoping to catch a glimpse of him, but that was creepy) but he tried to make Meri's matches as often as possible. He was her biggest fan and most rabid supporter. The tall blonde found himself cringing and regretting his decision more often than once when someone was nearly knocked off their broom or got themselves into a head on collision. It was his day off and he didn't want to spend it playing Medi-Wizard but for the most part he enjoyed the game. Some of the 'amateurs' were good and some hysterically bad.
The crowd around him erupted into cheers as a blonde woman successfully stole the quaffle from the professionals. Meri was already swooping in with her bat ready, a Puddlemere chaser moving into position to steal the quaffle. The former Slytherin's lips curled into a smirk, little Meri was certainly something on the pitch.

Alec was always game for little publicity stunts like this. A game inviting regular people to play against the pros, it was brilliant. A great way to engage the community and get them excited for the upcoming season (also a chance to covertly check out his competition) He played at half power, taking care not to get too aggressive with the bludgers against someone who wasn't necessarily used to being smacked into by them. Everything was going well, people seemed to be having a good time.
Cass had control of the quaffle and Alec fell in line behind her, ready to defend her from oncoming bludgers. This was strange usually he was aiming them at her. The whole match he kept getting these surreal feelings, protecting people from a bludger assault when he would normally be the one on the delivering end of said assault. The Cannon's captain went to make a pass and Alec was busy smacking back a bludger fired by a trollish looking bloke. While his attention was occupied a blonde blur swooped in from nowhere and snatched the quaffle up. Alec hadn't even been sure the woman knew there was a game going on around her before, she seemed more preoccupied with the clouds than the quaffle last time he paid her any attention.
He grinned, slowing his broom to turn and grin at Cassabelle. "What team did you say you're on?" he asked with a cocky raise of his brow. "The Cannons are professional, right?" He watched as his fellow beater and Addy zipped off to reclaim the quaffle from the spaced out witch, his smugness growing. Alec sat up on his broom, crossing his arms over his chest and inclining his head towards the scene. "Don't worry, Puddlemere'll get it back, of course."

Well, how about that - Cass' throw was intercepted! She smiled in surprise as the blonde witch on the other team caught the ball - she was pretty sure that was Luna Lovegood (Cass read a lot of magazines),but it was hard to tell with the way the little wisp of a woman was now zipping down the pitch. That had been a pretty good throw, in Cass' opinion...she was actually sort of impressed. And totally intent on getting the Quaffle back, of course. So was the rest of her team, apparently, as the attention of the pitch focused on the blonde with the Quaffle. Much to Cass' chagrin, the most-represented team on the Pro side today was, of course, Puddlemere. And they, of course, had to rub that fact in her face a bit before they, of course, zoomed off to save the day. Most of them, anyway. Cass rolled her eyes at Addy's amusement, still grinning herself; it was good to see the girl happy, even at Cass' expense. She poked her tongue out at the chaser before shooing her down the pitch. Another PU player was smacking a bludger toward Luna, and they needed that Quaffle back! The one Puddlemere player that didn't immediately take off down the pitch was, of course, Wayland. He slowed right down to have a little chat with Cassabelle. Cass' eyes trailed after the action down the pitch for a moment before her attention turned to Alec - they didn't need her down there, honestly (let the amateurs get a goal or two, come on); and she could never pass up the chance to sass Alec Wayland. "More professional than you, Witch Weekly." Nope, never gonna give that one up. Just because it was her favorite magazine didn't mean she couldn't also find it amusing that Wayland frequented its pages. Maybe a little envious that no one ever wanted to publish her (girl had a sense of style when she could be bothered with it), but mostly amused. She had an eye roll ready for Alec's smugness too, and she pulled it off dramatically, ending the roll to look back at the action down the pitch. "Don't you mean the Pros will get it? Don't forget, we're on the same team today, Wayland. Your successes are mine." She grinned chummily at him. "Which does raise the question - which one of us is captain?"

Let the amateurs get a goal? That was definitely defeatist Cannons talk. No wonder they were bottom of the league. They needed to be aggressive, take the goals wherever they could get them. The cannons especially needed to take whatever goals they could get, given their habit of not making them. Cass rose to the gentle teasing with cheek of her own, coaxing Alec's brow up and a smile on his stubbly face. "Do I sense some jealousy there, Blackburn?" Had she ever had a player in the Witch Weekly? Doubtful. Everyone was nuts about Puddlemere. "Green's not a good color on you, you know. You'll never make it to the Witch Weekly like that." He waggled a finger at her jokingly before his gaze drifted off to watch his team descend upon the willowy blonde woman.
"Lucky you." He said with a nod, agreeing with that sentiment. They were on the same team today. "Maybe you'll finally get to experience what winning feels like." His smugness relaxed into a grin of genuine amusement. He liked Cass and she did a good job with what she was given, the Cannons just weren't known for their skill. Yet. If anyone could put them on the map then Blackburn could. "I'll let you have a crack at captaining a winning team for once." Oh, these friendly barbs just wrote themselves. Alec looked out towards the stands, there was an awfully lot of Puddlemere blue there. "Maybe they'll even put you in the Witch Weekly."
The match wasn't over yet and the two captains had hovered there chatting long enough. Alec swept a hand out towards the action, grinning as he prompted "After you, Captain."

With everything that was going on in the wizarding world, Ashley was in desperate need of a distraction. The pros versus normals Quidditch game fit that bill nicely. Even if it did mean she had to team up with Mr. McEligible. But it also put her back on the same team as Cass, and Ashley had really missed playing alongside her friend. They had made quite the chaser duo back in the day. Ashley came up from a dive around one of the other team’s beaters (the non-professionals were actually holding their own remarkably well) to find Cass chatting with Alec a short distance above her. Seriously? They were talking in the middle of a game? What was this, tea time?
The same darn beater sent a bludger flying Ashley’s way, and she whipped her broom into a tailspin, using the end of it to crack the bludger back the way it had come. Good think her broom was sturdy. “Hey Wayland! Why am I doing your job?” she yelled up towards him. “Heads in the game, both of you!” Her voice didn’t hold the barb it usually did when Ashley was forced to talk to Alec. Just the same tough attitude she directed at all her teammates. It was part of what had made her a good captain back in school. She gave every game her all and expected her team to do the same.
Stark had taken off after the Quaffle, and Ashley shot off after her. Time for some trick flying. She swooped in dangerously close to the blonde with the Quaffle just before Meri's bludger arrived, so close the fabric of their uniforms nearly touched, and came out the other side bent low over her broom with her arm creating a small pocket of air against her body. A quick glance would make it look as if she had managed to snag the Quaffle and was making off with it. Ashley winked at Stark as she soared past, darting off toward the hoops as fast as she could fly. (It felt odd working with the other girl. Usually the two chasers were battling it out on their brooms. But Ashley had to admit rather grudgingly that the Puddlemere player was pretty damn good.) One of the other team’s chasers had already fallen in line behind her with a yell as he tried to catch up to retrieve the ball he thought she held. Hopefully the ruse would confuse the others enough that Addy could snag the real Quaffle and be halfway down the pitch before anyone was the wiser. Combine that with a smooth pass and another point would be theirs.

It wasn't long before the professional's descended on her and Luna zigged and zagged to try and throw them off her trail. That Stark girl was a chaser for puddlemere and was hot on her heels but then went underneath her. Luna blinked her protuberant eyes down at the girl, looking mildly surprised by the development and opened her mouth to remark something but was interrupted by an approaching bludger. "Oh!" she startled, rolling her broom so the bludger passed by with less than half an inch of space. With the shift of gravity Luna needed both hands to remain seated on her broom and sadly gave up the quaffle, dropping it nearly right to the waiting chaser below.
One would expect her to go after it when she righted herself but there was a flutter of color on the other end of the pitch and Luna zoomed off to investigate it like there wasn't a quidditch game going on around her. It turned out to be a pretty blutterfly fluttering it's way across the field and Luna thought she'd follow it for awhile and see where it went, skirting around the players.

His handsweep was punctuated by the voice of someone he was caring for less and less as time went on. Alec was a good guy at heart, he might offer gentle teasing (Cass got more than her fair share but they were good friends and his ribbing was often returned in kind) but he was never rude or unpleasant towards any of his fellow Quidditch players, or people in general. Most players understood that rivalry was in good fun and a lot of it was for the fans, who bought into that sort of thing. Ashley Avery seemed to have taken a personal dislike for him and he couldn't say why but it was getting wearing. Even innocent comments seemed to carry an annoying edge to them.
He rolled his eyes when she spoke, sighing before he responded with an exasperated "We're observing our teams, that's what Captains do." The blonde had dropped the quaffle, it almost looked like it was on purpose, and zoomed away. Addy was sure to gain possession of it and Meri would see her all the way to the goal posts, with or without him. That was the sort of player Meri was, fantastic on her own and as a team. People often underestimated the beater because of her little frame but the girl was a spitfire and made up for it. The blonde didn't see any point of persuing the quaffle again and had flown off. "I think she forgot there's a game going on." he shrugged before urging his broom forward to join his teammates, Ashley had flown off by now, trying to fake out some players by pretending to hold the quaffle. She looked foolish to him while holding air, but if it worked then more power too her.
Alec cheekily waved to Cass and fell in line next to Addy, Meri on the girl's other side. His grip tightened on his broom and he knocked an oncoming bludger, aiming it at one of the approaching amateur chasers and forcing her into an evasive move.

"Never, Wayland," Cassabelle grinned back at the Puddlemere captain. Jealousy. Pfft. Yeah. Okay...okay, yes, Cass was pretty darn jealous of Alec. His fame and his prestige. But it wasn't a resentful kind of jealousy; it was motivating. She would work toward being just as good as him, and one day, even better. And in the meantime, she would gladly play around with the man, take his teasing and deal it back - because that type of jealously fostered only respect for Alec. She opened her mouth in mock shock at his statement, tossing her bountiful curls so the breeze caught them. "Excuse you; I look good in everything." If only she could get the Witch Weekly to notice.
"Um, hello? Do I have to reenact for you - again - my amazing score that won Slytherin the Cup that one time?" She was grinning again, raising her eyebrows jokingly - as if the Hogwarts Quidditch cup meant anything at all, but Cass made sure everyone remembered that darn goal, even people that weren't there. Cass did have to admit, though, that she was lucky - though not exactly for the reason Alec's smugness proffered. They were all benefiting from this, raising interest in their sport; but Cass was most enjoying the opportunity to play with some of her favorite people without having to be on the team opposing them.
And some of her favorite people were just oh so generous. "Oh, you're too kind," she laughed, flapping a hand at Alec. "I'll make them have to," her nose wrinkled in a genuine smile at the beater before she saluted him, preparing to take off down the field - she had to admit, it was quite nice to hear Alec Wayland call her Captain, even if it was just in jest. One day.
Before she could get anywhere at all down the pitch, though, someone was calling out to them. Ashley. Cass hovered once more and turned to grin at her blonde friend, rolling her eyes playfully at the admonishment. Alec presented the perfect opportunity to get back at Ashley immediately, too - she nodded her head and agreed with the man when he called back to Ashley. That was sure to send the girl through a loop; they'd have a good laugh about it later. "Yeah!" She called out, winking at the girl as Ashley took off toward the action that, admittedly, Cass and Alec should have been getting back to. She looked at the man one more time when he spoke, adding a shrug of her own to his. "Better for us." And then Alec was off, leaving Cass grinning behind him as he waved.
Cass took off at a more leisurely pace toward the action end of the pitch, using her faraway vantage point to observe what was going on more critically. The amateur blonde had indeed dropped the Quaffle, and it looked like Addy was all set up to catch it. If not, most of the Pros were down there anyway; surely, someone would get the ball. Cass stayed back, awaiting any tosses that would potentially come her way. And observing the team, as was her Captainly duty, of course.
