The tragedy surrounding Frank Longbottom and Theo Ashland struck deeply and painfully into Luna's heart from two separate angles. Her feelings were getting tangled up and not much about it made sense. In an attempt to look at the issue logically and distance herself from the from the emotional aspect she conducted her own investigation in the name of The Quibbler. She spoke to character witnesses, people who had been present at the hospital on that fateful day and even coaxed Ron into 'leaving the file open' on his desk and making up an excuse to wander out of the room. It wasn't the most legal thing she had ever done but it was all in the name of determining a man's innocence.
Her final piece of the puzzle was speaking to the young woman who helped Theo escape after the deed was done. Anger roiled and burned hot in Luna's veins as she ascended the stairs to the woman's apartment. The woman never claimed to be under the influence of an Imperius curse or coercion, she left Frank Longbottom forgotten on the floor of the corridor all on her own volition. That was something very hard to forgive, he deserved more respect than that.
At first the woman refused to talk to her, shutting the door in her face. It tested the normal serene demeanor but Luna persisted. It wasn't until she mentioned Theo's name that the woman opened the door and invited her inside. The sat and talked for a long time, about frivolous things like the weather and Quidditch and heavy things like murder, lying and Theo. Mali was a sweet person, the kind that you wanted to like instantly and in the hours that they spent together she wore down Luna's resolve to dislike her. She pitied her, to be honest. To be in love and forced apart must be awful. Like Remus, Luna was a believer in the power of love and was moved by the woman's devotion.
Luna offered to carry a letter to Theo for Mali, in both a show of solidarity and a sort of apology to Theo. The young Healer's eyes lit up and she immediately set to writing right away. In the interest of not hovering or rushing the girl she busied herself with the trio of cats that gathered mewing around. Luna found them charming, sweet creatures that they were. Anything with fur was charming, really.
After Mali was finished Luna apparated away to the start of the path up to Theo's house. Anxiety crawled up and down her spine and through her her limbs as she started the walk to the door. While things were tense but tolerable with Meg she hadn't spoken a word to Theo in the time since she screamed at him (and banished him into a wall). She wasn't proud of that day but it was almost understandable, wasn't it? It was foolish of him to try and touch her after everything that happened.
With a deep breath Luna knocked firmly on the door. There was a long pause between her knock and the door cracking open, and another stall before his face appeared in the doorway. Luna didn't say a word, merely thrust out her hand to present the neatly folded parchment.
