(a copy of the same letter is sent to each of them, with an indication that he has done so)
Mali Johar / Theo Ashland,
I apologize for not following up sooner than this. I will not offer excuses, as I'm sure you don't want to hear them - suffice to say, I have been investigating - and anyways, I have something far better to offer than words.
In light of recent events, I feel like it's important to get to the truth. You have Remus' trust, and while I should be impartial, because Remus believed in you I will do the same. As such, I've thought of a way to prove what happened at the hospital that night.
Have you ever heard of a Pensieve? It's a memory-viewer, for lack of a better word. Properly done, it allows for others to view your memories of an event (only that event - it removes a copy of the memory for others to view, it's not opening a window into your mind). If you are willing, as this is certainly something private, I could view those memories. Whatever happened, I will be able to see - including proving that it was the Imperius curse and that you are not to blame.
It is an invasion of privacy. I understand that. This is why I am offering it to you as an option, not as a command. Veritaserum can be tricked; there is no eyewitness testimony and we do not have the Death Eater's wand to prove what she cast. I can't think of any recourse that will end your term in the spotlight, and under arrest, or save you a trial. Still: the choice is yours, and only yours.
Think about it. Take your time. I'd like your answer within a week.
