The Fountain of Magical Bretheren had certainly changed a few times in Luna's lifetime and each addition was more offensive than the last. Nothing came close to it's current form. A Wizard was locked in battle with a centaur, asserting it's dominance while a house elf coward in fear, shying away from the battle and embracing the safety of the Wizard's protection. It was sickening, and spoke of wizard arrogance, opulence and frivolity, the statue was made out of glittering gold. The willowy witch stood in the atrium, face set in disgust and arms crossed over her chest. The wizard's face was frozen with a smug, self assured grin and Luna thought it repulsive.
This was what she was hoping to fight against with their little demonstration. Her feeling of loss and heavy heart was the Ministry's fault. The harder they pushed on werewolves, stripping away their rights and treating them like animals, the more radicals they would spawn. Anyone with eyes could see that Tonks was no accidental victim, her death had to mean something. The Ministry would have one believe that her death meant werewolves were dangerous no matter how much they tried insisted they had their transformations under control. There were whispers, very quiet whispers, that the wolf responsible was none other than Remus Lupin. A result of bad wolfsbane or poorly placed protective wards. That would ignore the evidence, their cellar door was intact and their front door was splintered. The fur found on Tonks was even different than Professor Lupin's wolfy fur.
There were familiar faces among the crowd that buzzed through the Ministry, auror friends and Order members. Tonks was such a popular woman, well loved for her upbeat and fun loving nature, that her demonstration would undoubtedly be successful. Luna checked her watch before leaving the fountain and heading towards the center of the atrium. She wore a Weird Sister's t-shirt and had charmed her normally wispy blonde hair into a bright shade of bubblegum pink in honor of the occasion. She even managed to run a brush through her newly colored locks, a rarity for her.
Luna pressed the tip of her own wand against her throat, casting a non verbal Sonorus charm. "Nine days ago, the wizarding world lost a beautiful light." Her voice carried and projected, reaching the back walls and rattling the faux windows. "Tonks was a wonderful person, she dedicated her life to fighting the darkness and believed in standing up for what's right when you saw what was wrong. The Ministry is trying to divide us." Her voice caught a jagged, teary edge but she pushed on. "They want us to believe that our own friends are dangerous. They hope we will be too busy fighting among ourselves to notice as they appoint themselves more power than any governing body should have. We need to stand up for our friends when the Ministry begins to make it impossible for them to stand up for themselves. It may just be werewolves and other 'dangerous' beings now, but tomorrow the Ministry could be stripping you of your rights and you'll be looking for someone to stand up for you."
Luna's dreamy blue gaze swept over the gathered crowd, watching for signs of aurors. No one had tried to intervene yet and that was a positive sign. "Tonks loved a werewolf, despite the risks and the hardships. Their life wasn't perfect and it wasn't easy, but they loved each other and they made it work. Love will always prevail. History has shown us that. Raise your wands to honor her memory, to tell the Ministry that you will choose love for your magical brethren over hate and fear." With that, Luna's voice died down. With a flourish of her wand the tip of it illuminated and she rose it high into the air, defiance written clear across her face.
