All it would have taken was a flick of a wand and a muttered incantation and Mali would have been dead. It would have been an ironic death, given the two deaths she was involved in. For a minute she even really believed that it was the end and she was going to die, but then there was a commotion just outside that drew their captors away. Everything started to blur together, it felt surreal. She saw others in that god forsaken farmhouse. People she must have hallucinated, because it didn't make sense. She saw Harry, Mister Lupin, even Luna.Mental and physical exhaustion overpowered the surreal disorientation the new arrivals brought and Mali blacked out for a good long time. When she finally awoke she was expecting to find herself in the same cramped, windowless room or maybe if any of that had really happened, the hospital. Although conscious, she didn't dare open her eyes, afraid that she would find herself still stuck in that nightmare. Instead, Mali laid there with her eyes squeezed shut and ears strained as she listened for the voices of death eaters or sounds of St. Mungo's. Minutes passed and she heard neither, just the creaks of an old house settling. Finally she managed to work up the nerve to ease her eyes open and sit up. Nothing made any sense. It certainly wasn't St. Mungo's, but it wasn't the farm house either. It looked to be a dusty old home that hadn't seen a decorator since the 1980s. She was alone, though. That was a running theme in her life for the past few months. Alone in her studio apartment while Eoin worked, alone in the farm house, and alone in... wherever she was. Mali eased herself cautiously out of the unfamiliar bed and onto her feet. She wasn't known for her sense of bravery but the witch was egged out into the hall by curiosity, hope that she might find Theo somewhere along the way, or at least someone who would know where Theo was. Or where she was. Maybe it was all a dream. A very, very vivid dream. It wasn't likely, she could feel the carpet under her bare feet and the old, worn wallpaper under her fingers as they dragged along the wall. Voices drew her down the stairs, they weren't like the Death Eaters. They sounded friendly and kind even from far away. Mali's hand ran along the wall as she walked, it anchored her in the present, let her focus on the task at hand. Her steps were cautious but direct, she needed to find someone to explain what was going on, someone to tell her where Theo and Draco were. Down the stairs she went, towards what looked like it may be a kitchen. but her dragging hand got caught up in a heavy curtain. The curtain had hidden a portrait of a wicked old woman who shrieked and screamed when her covering was disturbed. It sent Mali skittering to the far wall of the hallway, fleeing shouts of 'FILTH' and 'BLOOD TRAITORS'. No, this had to be the farm house, where else would someone hang such a rotten portrait? It was too much, far too loud. Mali clapped her hands over her ears and slid down to the floor, legs drawn up and eyes shut tight. She couldn't block out the woman's rant and just when she felt her composure snapping in half, a hand on her shoulder startled her and Mali found herself face to face with Remus Lupin . ____________________________________________________ Theo Ashland , Draco Malfoy Harry Potter and other order members are welcomed and encouraged to flutter into the thread.

Remus was in the midst of a strange sort of high, sitting in what was now Harry's kitchen. Despite the terrible circumstances, he felt more alive than he had in weeks. Despite the fact that people were dying around him again, and people were being snatched right off the streets again, and the world was shrugging on a familiar old darkness...he felt okay. Not happy, but okay. Alive. Order business tended to give him that sort of feeling. In a sluggish world where he had to hide so much, it was nice to get out there and actually do something. And boy, had they done it.
Remus wasn't a fool. He'd seen this too many times to think they'd accomplished anything grand. This was just the beginning (again). But any strike against the Death Eaters was a reason to feel good in his book, at least for a little while. And while this particular strike may not have been much in the grand scheme of things, it mattered to Remus quite a lot. Mali was his friend, Theo was his friend. Draco was his former student. They were innocent people, they were good people, and they were the kind of people the Order was doing this all for in the first place. They were safe now. Who wouldn't feel good?
Walburga bloody Black, that's who. That witch always had to ruin a good moment. Even from the kitchen Remus could hear her rants fire up, and he was on his feet without thinking to go save whatever poor soul dared disturb her. How many times had he done this over the years? Too many - as he got closer, the rants turned from just 'blood traitors' to 'blood traitors with fleas'; Walburga's portrait recognized him, in a way, and nothing made Remus want to burn the bloody thing to ashes more.
When he came upon the portrait, at first he didn't see who had disturbed Walburga. That's because she was curled up on the floor against the opposite wall, trying desperately to block out the Black matriarch's verbal abuse. Remus frowned. It was out of the frying pan and into the fire for Mali, apparently; escaping Death Eaters only to run into something just as bad (albeit stuck to a wall). After shooting a warning glare Walburga's way, Remus went down on a knee, putting a hand on Mali's shoulder. He tried to be gentle, but obviously the poor girl was a little rattled at the moment. He smiled at her when she looked up.
"Go to the kitchen," he pointed back the way he came. "I'll be right there." With that, he was back on his feet and facing Walburga. His face fell into a grimace at the mere sight of her, and his words for her weren't nearly as gentle as the ones he had for Mali. After much grumbling and cursing, and a few shouts, on his end, Remus finally managed to get the curtains snapped shut on Walburga's painted visage once more. So help him, if it was the last thing he did, he would get that portrait off that wall before he died.
With the fight over, Remus' attention turned back to the greater matter at hand. He turned back down the hall to look for Mali. "Sorry. I promise I'll explain everything. Even that...thing. But how are you feeling?"

Remus Lupin might not consider what he and his friends did to be grand, but Mali sure did. Or she would, when she fully understood what had happened. He and his group had saved them from being extinguished in a dim, dirty room at the hands of horrible people with wicked ideals. It literally meant everything to Mali, they were the reason that she was able to sit on the floor, curled up in a protective ball with her hands over her ears and forehead pressed into her knees. Mali's eyes were squeezed shut as if it would help dampen the sound. The woman shrieked and screamed, using words like 'mudblood' 'blood traitor' and... fleas? If she hadn't been so preoccupied with not disintegrating into a puddle of tears on the carpet she would have found it funny. It felt like the rant grew louder and more aggressive, almost like the woman was about to crawl right out of her portrait and loom over her. "Shut up!" she said through gritted teeth. "Shut up! Shut it!"
Although Lupin's hand on her shoulder made her heart skip three beats as it jumped into her throat, it also managed to drag her back from the edge of madness she was teetering on. The witch tensed under his hand, relaxing when she realized that he was smiling.. Although she couldn't manage a smile back it felt safe and she eased out of her ball. He'd come from the kitchen, she thought she'd heard friendly voices from it before. Mali made it to her feet and moved off in the direction of the kitchen, glancing over her shoulder as Mister Lupin squared off with the painting. One wouldn't think that would be something to find impressive but with the way he stood and spoke, it commanded respect. He was a powerful man, no doubt about that. Weak and unskilled people don't go charging into a death eater's lair to rescue others.
She reached for the kitchen door, about to push it open when her gaze fell on her own hand. The bruising reminded her that her hands were tender and for a moment Mali wasn't standing just outside an unfamiliar kitchen but in that suffocatingly small room beating against the door 'til she fractured bones in her palms and knuckles, shrieking her frustration and begging to be let out, to go home. Hearing Mister Lupin's voice behind her, Mali flexed her fingers and turned to face him. She had so many questions and wanted very much for him to explain things. "I'm fine." She wasn't, not by a long shot, but there were far more important things, questions that couldn't wait for Mister Lupin to get around to explaining for answers "Where's Theo? And Draco. Him too. Where is he? Where are we now?"

Luna was seated around the table with the other gathered Order members as they discussed the most recent developments and their next steps. The Ministry had made the Order their enemy and solidified that position every day. Death Eaters were getting bolder, snatching people off the streets. It was starting to feel like it did before, darkness looming just around the corner. The conversation happened around her, Luna had zoned out ages ago. Her eyes were unfocused, legs swinging back and forth underneath her chair. The wispy witch leaned her chin on her palm, lost in her own mind. Her train of thought was derailed by the umbrage of the former Lady of the House. Luna lifted her head and looked towards the door as Professor Lupin hurried off to quiet Mrs. Black. Their guests must be waking up and wandering about, which was a good sign. The three had been in pitiful condition when the Order found them and whisked them away from the Death Eaters. They'd brought them to Grimmauld Place instead of the hospital because of a growing distrust of the Ministry as a whole. They wouldn't even acknowledge that the three had been missing and Luna was confident that Death Eaters were working on inserting themselves into positions of power and cuddling up to influential people. Perhaps it was best for everyone just to lay low for awhile. The screaming died down and then there were voices, Professor Lupin and Mali talking just beyond the kitchen door. Luna rose up, chair scraping against the floor as she went to join the two in the hallway. She offered the young woman a gentle smile before saying "Oh, he's just up stairs. I'll go get him." The willowy witch maneuvered her waifish frame past the two and headed up the stairs and to another one of the spare bedrooms. She paused to knock before opening the door and letting herself in to find a large man sitting in bed, apparently disturbed by the commotion down stairs. "Wonderful! You're just where we left you. The house can be a bit dangerous if you don't know where you're going. Harry's done a wonderful job cleaning it up but I feel like there's always a surprise lurking around the corner. Sometimes those surprises can be quite nasty." Her voice was gentle and sympathetic as she lingered in the door way. Luna was sensitive to the delicate state of their rescued charges. "If you'd come with me, please." Luna moved, extending her hand to take Theo's and encourage him to his feet. "I'm sure you have questions and we'd like to answer them. Mali's awake, I think it's best that we explain things to you both together. Everyone's downstairs." With Theo's hand in hers, she stepped backwards towards the door. "It's alright. You're safe here." ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Order members are welcome to join. Draco was awake, but Merlin, did he wish he wasn't.
Grimmauld Place didn't inspire relief in him, but dread. He woke up to a clean (well, clean-er) room and a soft bed, and as his consciousness filtered back in (bruises, breaks, memories and all), he was first aware that they were safe, and then that he was completely and utterly lost. It had taken days to push through his armor, something he'd been so sure wasn't possible, and in the aftermath Draco felt... exposed. Lost, vulnerable, like an abandoned stray in a winter field, with nowhere to go. It was terrifying, and when Draco heard footsteps coming up the stairs he bolted, past a confused Order member and into a bathroom, where he locked the door, sunk to the floor, and just...
...just burst, like water from a dam, his face pressed into his knees and his Marked forearm held at an awkward angle away from his body as he let go of broken, awful sobs.
The last thing he wanted, (some corner of his mind that was still essentially Draco knew), was for someone to hear him and come see, and so he tried to keep it in. His chest shaking, bottom lip clamped in his teeth, face screwed up against the feeling that his chest was going to burst (or collapse, he wasn't sure), he shook against the cold tile of the bathroom, uncertain why he'd started crying or how he was going to stop, only that it wasn't making him feel better. The entire situation was terrifying him. What had happened, what he'd done, what he was doing now all were tangled in a massive knot, and he worked through these things in a loop, getting more and more panicked as he went, unable to stop crying, thinking, or making some truly terrible sounds.
After a few moments, Draco managed to go silent, taking deep, shuddering breaths of air and clinging to that natural metronome as something to hold him together. He leaned his head back on the door with a muffled thump, and felt even more miserable at his loss of control, wiping furiously at the damp tracks on his face. Merlin, he was pathetic, Draco told himself, and pressed the heels of his hands into his eyes as if that would make it all go away.
Even worse than the maelstrom of awful swirling in his chest was the knowledge that he was going to have to stand up soon and go rejoin reality as if nothing had happened at all. At this point, Draco thought tiredly, he didn't know what was worse. For now, though, he didn't think he could face the people downstairs, particularly not Mali and Theo, definitely not Potter. He didn't have the energy to run, though, so he remained where he was, sprawled on the cold bathroom floor and wishing he was anywhere else.

Theo really couldn't decide which was worse, as he hauled himself up into a sitting position to deal with them both at the same time (how wonderful): the ache in his body that he was trying to sleep away or the infernal hollering downstairs that jolted and kept him awake. Both screamed through his veins, so overwhelming in their duplicity that he could do nothing but sit there and take it, wrapped around himself and willing it all to go away with his eyes shut tight. He had no idea where he was, or what was happening downstairs, or really what had happened to him in the past couple of days. He almost felt like he even barely knew who he was.
A knocking at the door sent him flailing across the bed in momentary panic. Knocking. Death Eaters didn't knock. Death Eaters barged in and kicked you in the gut and made you do terrible things to yourself and others. But if it wasn't a Death Eater knocking at the door...who was it? Again he pulled in on himself, looking around his new room (prison? It remained to be seen).Theo wasn't sure he could stand other human beings right now, captors or saviors or not.
The door creaked open and Theo sat completely still to accept his fate. There was no fight in him right now. That had been broken into pieces and scraped out and he was still feeling raw. But there was no reason to fight, standing there in the doorway. Luna was there. Luna, who was not a Death Eater, but who in fact was apparently one of the most badass women on the planet. The sight of her brought Theo flashbacks of the day before in a way that was almost as overwhelming as the screaming downstairs. Theo just now noticed that it had stopped.
"What?" Honestly, that's all he could say. He didn't know who 'we' was and it would only dawn on him much later that 'Harry's' house was Harry bloody Potter's house. He was overwhelmed and confused and while there was a lot of all that on the surface, much darker things lurked below.
Lucky for him, Luna didn't answer him. Theo wasn't ready to know 'what' yet, not at all. He was a simple man and needed his creature comforts met before he got to any thinking at all. Even right now, a friendly face was doing him wonders. Theo knew he could trust Luna. He'd always been a bit intimidated by her, but she was nothing to be afraid of. She had a sort of calming effect over him, really; her worldview was certainly contagious whenever he was around her, no matter his own heartache. Luna provided a sort of pleasant-colored filter to the world that made it little easier for him, and he assumed the same for many other people, to force himself to look.
"Yeah, okay." He climbed off the bed, wincing at the way his nerves and joints seemed to pinch and stiffen for no apparent reason. Luna said they had answers and explanations and that made him hesitate, the reality of it all with each step he took away from the bed; but they also had Mali somewhere, she said, and that kept him forward. There was a reason not to slip away - he had to make sure she was okay. As overwhelmed and impotent as he felt, there was something he could manage.
Another creature comfort, touch, and Theo was warming back up. He gladly took Luna's hand, letting her pull him the rest of the way. He was still a bit too disoriented to be curious about where he was; he kept his eyes in her general direction. "Thank you," he said hesitantly, not really sure what he should be thanking her for yet; or rather, where he should start.

Mali most certainly was not fine, he could tell; and he wouldn't expect her to be, not one bit. Remus knew all about not being fine right now; he just wanted to make sure she was okay enough to want to bother with him or other people right now. That, she did seem to be. She asked after Theo and Draco and Remus resumed his gentle smile, putting his hand back on her shoulder to guide her through into the kitchen. This kitchen always put him in, at the very very least, an okay mood. He was sure it worked the same way for others.
Before they got there, though, the door opened the other way and out popped Luna. Remus' face fell just a bit at the presence of the two women in the hallway, awkward moments of eavesdropping in the recent past bubbling back up to the surface of his brain. Luna went on her merry way soon enough, though, and Remus guided Mali into the kitchen, nudging her over to a chair around the table where a couple of other Order members sat. He went to the stove to, of course, put on the kettle.
"Upstairs, the both of them. I'm quite sure they're awake now." He grinned slightly in Mali's direction, turning to lean against the kitchen counter as he waited for the water. "Welcome to Harry's house, Mali." That's all she needed to know for now. "I keep making promises. But I assure you this will all make more sense in just a few minutes." That remained to be seen, really. Not everyone could immediately wrap their heads around the concept of a secret society. Mali was clever enough, though, he thought.
The sound of thumping footsteps signaled that Luna had taken up her charge and was returning with him - sounds in this house tended to echo all over. Remus busied himself with making tea, a cup for himself and a cup for Mali because she needed it, what couldn't tea fix? He settled himself next to her after doling out their cups.

As soon as Luna stepped off the stairs a blonde blur darted past, locking themselves in the bathroom. "Oh, hello Draco!" she called after him, making a note to send someone to check up after him. He knew all about The Order and Grimmauld Place and her priority was fetching Theo so they could orient their newest guests together. Maybe it would be easier to process for them if they had each other to try and work through it with. It was easy for Luna to comprehend when she fully learned about The Order but the Lovegoods always took quickly to conspiracy theories and knew that the Order was only one of many secret societies. It didn't hurt that she was introduced to the Order when they saved her life at the Department of Mysteries. Sort of like how Theo and Mali were being introduced. Theo was, as she suspected, not doing very well. There was movement when she knocked that sounded panicked from where she stood. It would be a bit startling to have someone knocking on your door when you didn't know where you were. He looked broken, sitting there on the bed. Defeated and beaten down from the past couple of months. He agreed to come along with her and she was glad for it. He was calm, although in pain by the way that he moved. Luna frowned at the sight and filed another mental note to track down a potion to help. Probably for all three, how silly of her not to consider it before. Their bodies and minds had been broken and a little sleep wouldn't fix that. Time would help, though. When she was sure that Theo wasn't going to bolt, Luna turned and led him the rest of the way into the hall. Hearing the 'Thank You' Luna smiled at him over her shoulder. She thought he might be thanking her for helping to save his life. "You're welcome, although the gratitude isn't really necessary. It's sort of what The Order does. Fight the bad guys, help the good. I'm sorry that you've gotten caught up in our war." She paused on the landing, knocking on the bathroom door and leaning against it to tell the Slytherin Prince "Let me know if you need anything, Draco. We're all down stairs, please come down when you're ready." Outside the ktichen, Luna let go of Theo's hand and turned to face him. "There are a few aurors in there, but don't let them make you nervous. You're not in any trouble, they're just part of the Order." Half the auror department was, at this rate. After giving him her assurance, Luna pushed the door open and stepped aside, holding it to allow Theo through. It might be intimidating walking into the room with so many eyes on you but this was important. They had to explain, but they also had some questions. Perhaps one of the three picked up some useful information or could clue them in on some Death Eater activity. Maybe they could understand how it happened so they could work to prevent it in the future. After Theo was inside, Luna moved off to rejoin the table. She paused at Aje Odili, leaning down to whisper in his ear about Draco. Aje was not someone who was good with meeting new people so she was sure he was glad for the 'out' and she thought he would be a good person to send to look after Draco. He was kind and understanding and not as emotionally involved with the former Death Eater's history as others were. The large dueling professor nodded along as he listened before standing up and heading out of the room without a word. Luna took her seat and waited patiently for the conversation to begin.

Mister Lupin didn't immediately answer her question, instead he guided her towards the kitchen door. It annoyed her, but Mali was honestly surprised she had the capacity to feel anything other than exhaustion and confusion. She was just so tired of feeling so helpless and confused and unprepared. They were met by Luna, who floated through with smiles and offers to go get Theo. Under any other circumstances she would have something to say about it, but the hand on her shoulder helped to quell her temper. Instead of an objection she simply nodded and muttered a 'Thank you' before moving on with Mister Lupin.
On the other side of the door Mali froze up. There were quite a few people in the room, some familiar and some now, but they were all looking back at her as she looked at them. It was uncomfortable and awkward so when Remus urged her towards a chair she hurried over to it with her head down and without a word. Mali took care not to look at anyone or anything, just her hands on the table. And then a spot just to the right of her hands when the bruises bothered her.
She nodded at his joke. If she were in a better mood she might tell him that the entire city was probably awake after that, but instead she only nodded. Mali was in a weird sort of place where she didn't necessarily want to interact with people but she didn't want to be alone either. Casual conversation felt very strange.
Mali looked up when Remus told her it was Harry's house. He might feel like that was all she needed to know, but Mali didn't agree. "I don't understand why or how I'm here." But of course, he would explain later. Everything would make sense in a few minutes. But for the minutes until then, Mali would stew in her annoyance. It was unfair to feel that way, but a lot of things had been unfair lately.
She felt guilty for her annoyance when Remus brought tea. Even so, she accepted it gladly with a "Thank you." Her throat was sore, both from thirst and having been screamed and shouted raw and the tea would do wonders for it. Mali had just taken a sip when the kitchen door opened again and she watched over the rim of the cup as Theo and Luna appeared in the doorway.
Seeing Theo with her own eyes, knowing that he was safe, not just being told that he was okay, lifted an immense weight off of Mali's shoulders and eased the tightness in her chest. Relief let her breathe easier and she felt much better, even managing a tired smile for him. She watched as Luna took her seat, eyes going immediately back to Theo to watch him, unsure how receptive he and others would be if she went to him. She wanted to touch him, to solidify that he was really there and not just some hallucination.
Finally she decided that she didn't care what anyone else thought. Last night she thought she was going to die. Life was too short. Mali set down her tea and stood up, hurrying over to Theo to wrap him up in her arms and hold him close and try not to cry with her face buried in her chest. He was here, warm and solid and there. "Merlin." Her voice cracked with emotion. "You're here. You're really here. I don't know where here is but I don't care because I thought we were all going to die in that room."

Crystal would be lying if she said the recent Order action wasn’t almost a relief. With all the Ministry mess going on, she had been in desperate need of a good fight to blow off some steam. Which their little rescue had definitely accomplished. She hadn’t felt this alive in a while. Crystal hadn’t missed the war exactly. But she was a fighter. She wasn’t any good at all this political stuff like Hermione was. Dueling Death Eaters though? That she could definitely handle. The Order members who had participated in the rescue had retreated to Grimmauld Place like usual. It felt almost like the old days with all of them in the kitchen drinking tea or coffee as they waited for their fast-flowing blood to settle down from the recent action. Crystal herself had settled on a rickety stool beside Aje Odili as she nursed a large mug of coffee. She was almost smiling as the usual roundtable discussion of strategy progressed. And then bloody Walburga Black woke up. “Oh, bloody hell,” Crystal muttered. She leaned back in her seat so her voice was directed toward the hallway. “Shut-up!” She shook her head as Remus got to his feet to go tend to their guests. “Probably scared the bloody life out of them,” Crystal muttered to Aje. “One of these days, I’m going to find a way to shut her up.” Although if the combined power of the Weasley twins had come up empty thus far, the odds were rather slim. Remus and Luna were handling the guests, so Crystal got up for some more coffee. She was just sitting back down with another full mug when Remus came back with Mali Johar. Crystal had never met the woman officially, but she’d seen the pictures in the Prophet. Not to mention hearing all about her from Harry and Remus, the latter of whom seemed to have taken quite a liking to her. And that was good enough for Crystal. She directed a friendly smile Mali’s way as she sat back down on the stool. Luna came back next with Theo in tow. She stopped briefly next to Aje, and Crystal leaned her neck back so she could see the blonde. “Want me to go get the snake head?” There was no real bite in the words. Just a simple question. Crystal wasn’t any more fond of Draco than Harry and the others were, but she could appreciate that he might be a little rattled right now. Besides, brat or not, he didn't deserve what he had been through. No one deserved that. Luna directed her whispered instructions to Aje though, and Crystal shrugged acceptingly. Her large former co-worker was probably better at this anyway. Crystal might be handy in a fight, but she wasn’t always the best with comforting. Especially where it concerned people she didn’t really like. The sight of Theo sent Mali scurrying over. Crystal smiled over the rim of her coffeecup as she watched. They really were cute. (She might be a badass auror, but she was still a girl, thank you very much.) Had Fred been close enough, he probably would’ve whispered some joke and they both would have snickered over it. But he wasn’t. And after the time these two had been through. Crystal was willing to let them have a moment. Instead she quietly sipped her coffee and looked to Remus to take the lead.

While the rescue mission made the others feel good, Aje felt terrible. He didn't like to know that the darkness was coming back and that people were suffering, it made his heart feel heavy in his chest. They might have done a sliver of good but what about those they weren't able to help? Surely these three were not the Death Eaters only victims this time around. He felt like he failed those nameless victims, that his retirement from the auror office was more of a desertion than anything else. Perhaps it was a little self important, but Aje felt like maybe if he stayed he could have made a difference. He felt like he never should have left, not with things in their current state.
That was exactly why he left, though. He could not keep fighting in every aspect of his life. At work, at the Order. He was a simple man and as good as he was at fighting sometimes he just got tired of it. For his own sake he needed a job where he wasn't constantly chasing after bad guys and what better than to teach children how to defend themselves? Defense Against The Dark Arts prepared them for dark creatures, dark magic, but not against dark witches and wizards in the way that his class would. He worked on their reflexes, on staying calm in the heat of battle and his students were all doing wonderfully. That made the feelings he felt now worth it, in the long run.
As always, Aje didn't have much to say. He'd grown closer with many of the Order members, thanks to his students managing to pull him out of his shy shell. It gave him the confidence and motivation to branch out and be social. He didn't have to be strong and silent all the time. But now, he was. He listened as they spoke, concentrating to make sure he clearly understood as they ran through their post mission routine. Talking, planning, drinking coffee. Eventually they were interrupted by the shrieking of the portrait that he didn't care for and then two members were off to settle everything down. Miss Meadows seemed to share his disdain for the portrait and he nodded his agreement as he leaned back in his chair, tilting it back onto two legs. "Maybe we can her mouth to have a gag." he offered thoughtfully. "Or cut the wall down." At this point he was willing to blow the wall up.
Soon Remus returned with the girl that they rescued, who looked like she might bolt from the room or be sick. Or both. Remus joked with her and he cracked a grin. Soon Luna brought the oldest one in and dropped by his seat to whisper something in his ear. Draco Malfoy, upstairs. Check on him. He nodded along as he listened and then rose up. He intended to leave without much fanfare but he looked to Crystal when she offered to retrieve him. "I think I should just go see if he is okay. He will come down in his own time."
Once out of the kitchen, he headed up the stairs. He didn't know what to say and quite frankly Draco Malfoy was known for being well spoken and very sarcastic. It intimidated him, Aje didn't like to be made to feel stupid. He managed the bathroom door with a wandless unlocking charm before phasing into badger form. Draco Malfoy was not in a good place and sometimes all someone needed was to know that someone was there. Aje could do that, and he didn't need his imposing frame to do it.
The badger rubbed up against the blonde's back, much like a large cat and wound around to his front. He rested his head on Draco's leg, settling in on the floor. Nothing he could say would make the boy's plight any better, but at least Malfoy would know that if there was something on his mind, that if he needed to talk, there was someone that would listen.

Luna had a war, and an Order, whatever that was. To be frank, Theo didn't understand most of the things Luna said on a normal day, so this was really no different. The familiarity was actually another source of comfort. Theo had the unsettling feeling that he was about to have his mind completely blown and his worldview rocked, once he got his answers; so to listen to Luna go on about things he didn't understand gave him some much needed grounding. She felt safe to ask as many questions as he wanted, just like always, but before he could get to any of them Luna was talking to a door.
"Is he okay?" Theo watched the door behind them as Luna finished up and they went on their way. Theo had no idea what to think about Draco right now. He was still largely blanking out on what happened before they were rescued, the sheer weight of it too much to hold in his mind all at once, bu the important pieces were there. Draco was forced to make a choice. Had he made it? Theo couldn't remember. But he could remember the man being put through the same things that he and Mali were put through.
By the time the question left his lips, they were already at the kitchen and Luna was talking to him. Talking to him about a kitchen full of Aurors which was enough to send Theo right back up the hall. Luna told him not to be nervous, though, and he had to admit as many times as she had mentioned this Order he was getting pretty curious to see what it was all about. "Okay. Thank you," he stumbled through nervous gratitude again, taking a deep breath and walking through the door Luna held for him.
The kitchen was pretty full. Some faces he recognized from all the lovely time he spent at the Ministry - but he wasn't really looking at those, of course. His attention was drawn straight to Mali, like his brain knew she was there half a second before his eyes did. She was there and she was okay, all in one piece. She was even smiling. It didn't matter that the smile was tired or she looked just as overwhelmed as he. She was here. Theo met her halfway when she scrambled up to meet him.
There were half a dozen pairs of eyes on them, but that was okay. Their lives had already been laid out in full display over the past few months, what were a few more innocent onlookers? Theo barely noticed anyway, too occupied as he was with wrapping Mali up - yep, all there - and smiling into a kiss against her forehead. Her resolve was breaking, dissolving right in his arms, but Theo still wasn't ready to think about what she was dredging up. One thing at a time. At the very least, he would need a good meal and a strong drink still before any thinking could come up. "We're okay," he rubbed her back, needing just another second before he let go for the sake of the other people in the room. "Draco is too. He's here." Because he knew Mali, bless her, would probably be worried about him too.
Very reluctantly, Theo peeled one arm from around Mali, urging her back into her chair with his other before taking a chair on the other side of her. He slung an arm across the back of her own chair, hand on her shoulder because he had the inexplicable feeling that if he wasn't touching her she would somehow slip away. Now was the time for answers, and Theo found himself growing restless. Even if he didn't want to think about what happened yet, he still wanted the answers for later consideration. Mostly, he wanted to know where the hell he was and what an Order really did.

Mali wasn't happy with his vagueness. Again, not that he could blame her. Waking up in another strange house, full of more strangers, after what she'd been through couldn't leave one with many happy thoughts at all. His promises and jokes weren't exactly working, but they seemed to placate her well enough. That and the tea, of course. Remus sipped at his own mug and listened to the low murmurs in the room as he waited for Luna to get back.
And then there she was, tall man in tow. No Draco in sight yet, he noted with a peek out in the hallway before the door swung shut again, but Luna apparently had that handled too. She whispered something to Aje and off the man went, presumably to find Draco. The former Slytherin was more familiar with this narrative than their other guests, so Remus thought it fine to get started without him. After another long sip of tea, he pushed out of his chair and went back to the kettle as Theo and Mali reunited - mostly to hide the grin growing on his face. That's what the Order did all this for, that right there. He fixed Theo a cup of tea as well and brought it to him once the pair was seated.
"As promised, your answers," he nodded at Mali and leaned against the end of the table, crossing his arms with tea back in hand. "This," he waved the cup around the room at the people gathered there. "Is the Order of the Phoenix. We brought you to Harry's house because this is our headquarters. We're a sort of...organization. Created as an alternative war effort in the First Wizarding War. We do what the Ministry can't, or won't." He took another sip of tea, eyes glittering over the rim of his cup at the copious number of Ministry employees in the kitchen. And the Ministry thought they had a Death Eater infiltration problem...
Remus' attention turned back to Mali and Theo, waiting a few seconds for them to process. It wasn't much information, in the grand scheme of things, but there was only so much he could say for now. "For the sake of security, we're highly secretive. I won't be able to answer all your questions, at least not right now. That said, I hope to do everything I can to help you understand. And to feel comfortable. You are safe here; that's first and foremost."

Everyone in the kitchen seemed nice enough. Their collective gazes didn't feel judgmental but Mali still felt very... self conscious or self aware, she wasn't really sure what the right word for it would be. One of them, a girl she'd seen in passing at the Ministry even offered a very friendly smile that she could only half return. There wasn't much to smile about in her opinion, only lots of confusion which was frustrating. Lots of promises to explain, but no explaining. Mister Lupin and his friends did save her life, but Mali'd done her fair share of life saving with Mister Lupin. They had a debt to each other they just seemed to pass back and forth. Bleeding, covert meetings, that was their friendship. At least she'd done the bleeding this time.
And then Theo was there. Wonderful, warm Theo. The Death Eaters hadn't managed to steal that from him, he was just as warm as she remembered as he wrapped her up in his embrace. There were eyes, of course, but no one moved to stop them or to make them feel awkward about their reunion. They all had to understand the need to touch, to feel that the person was okay with your own hands rather than to be told. Plus, Mali'd seen so many things that weren't really there in the past few days that she had to be sure he wasn't another trick, that someone wasn't prying through her mind and twisting it around for their own sick entertainment. Legilimency or something, they'd called it.
For a very brief moment, a cold streak of fear ran through her and every muscle tensed up as adrenaline flooded through her veins. This was all real, wasn't it? She felt it, Lupin's hand on her shoulder and the tea warming her hands. It was Theo's kiss on her forehead that sealed it and eased her anxiety. She loved his sweet little kisses, they always left a tingle where his lips met her skin. He smiled into it and she could've melted right there on the floor, but there was an audience. Theo pulled away and the two soon made it to the kitchen table together. She was glad for the hand on her shoulder, it kept her anchored, it was real. Not a dream, not manipulation.
When seated, Mali went back to sipping on the tea. It soothed the scratchy raw feeling in her throat. Theo didn't have tea. The unselfish parts of Mali's heart were urging her to offer to share her tea with him but she was oh so slightly reluctant. Mali looked from her cup to Theo and back again. Thankfully she was saved from the moral conundrum by Mister Lupin, who swooped in with a cup of for Theo before proceeding on with the promised answers.
His 'answer' only produced more questions. Lots of them, in fact. It felt a little unreal and Mali had to focus on the warmth of the tea to remind herself that it was. Secretive alternative war efforts. Goodness, some of them looked far too young to be involved in a secret war effort. Of course Harry Potter would be involved with something like that, but Luna? Luna always had her head in the clouds. The girl who smiled at her, Merlin she looked awfully young too. It sounded like a work of fiction, something out of a muggle action novel. Of all the questions filling her head and making it pound, the first one past her lips was "Is this why you're always bleeding?" More than a few times she'd patched Lupin up under mysterious circumstances and now she finally knew why. He secretly took on dark forces in his spare time between being a fantastic human being and a brilliant professor.

Somewhere in the middle of drowning in his own tears, Draco heard a soft voice drifting through the door, telling him to come downstairs when he was ready. He didn't ever feel like he was going to be ready. His facade, his grip on his own self that made him able to parry verbal rapiers with ease and always come out on top in a situation, had been shattered. He couldn't go downstairs and face ... people, not after that. Luna would probably forget she'd seen him at all, he hoped, but the entire Order, Mali, Theo... no, he wasn't leaving the room any time soon.
He swiped at his face again, halfheartedly, gaze tracking to the corner of the mirror that he could see from his position on the floor. He could see a corner of his face; hair messy and unkempt (if he hadn't had bigger problems, he would have been horrified), eyes wide, red and wet. There was a bruise spreading across his temple and a cut on a cheekbone, probably from a hard slap, but worst of all was not the dirt, the wetness or the wounds. Worst of all was the flat, empty look in his eyes, the drawn corners of his mouth. Draco shook his head, defeated, and drew his knees up to tuck his face into them, curling in and away from the mirror. He wished the events of the past... however long... hadn't happened. He wished he were somewhere else. He wished he could close his eyes and all of this would vanish.
He missed the door opening, but he couldn't fail to miss the brushing sensation on his back. Draco stiffened, resisting the urge to bring his face up to look and see, though he did press his Marked arm against his leg, covering the tattoo. At this point, if someone was going to kill him, it didn't much matter, Draco thought, but the last shreds of his self-control had to be maintained at all costs.
The sensation persisted, though, and then there was an animal winding its way to his lap, gently pushing one very tense knee down. Draco peered over one protective arm to see a badger, and his brow furrowed thoughtfully for a moment before the synapses connected. He opened his mouth to say something, anything, even a bad attempt at sarcasm... but nothing came out, no matter how much his throat worked. All that he managed was a choked half-noise before he leaned his head back on the door, looking upwards so that he didn't have to look the Animagus in the face. Draco tried again, speaking to the ceiling rather than the creature bringing warmth and support to his lap.
"If they want me downstairs, they're going to be waiting a while," Draco croaked finally, fingers curling painfully into his thigh. His throat was tight, crowded with held-back tears, and he desperately fought for control. "My beauty routine-" he swallowed hard, "takes quite a - while even without -" His eyes were hot. I thought this was done, he thought miserably, "Merlin," he managed as a curse before the tears started once more, raising his hands to cover his eyes as if that could stop the flood.
